Sturg1647545502
So i've come to grips with the idea that i would like a truck again at some point down the road. One of the things i want to do is sleep in it during the winter (ski trips, cold weather hunting/fishing and general travel in the winter) but not much more ( like shower, cook, or shit). I plan on using this as an alternative to hotel/primitive camping. I see two viable options here: 1)truck with camper thing in the bed 2) large SUV that i just pull the seats out of and sleep in. Anyone have experience with either? truck with a camper in the bed. Pros After the camper is off the truck i can haul shit, including my MC's More amenities than the SUV option such as a real bed. raper mobile Cons Storage for camper when not in use? Do these things even have heaters? cant haul much more add'l gear or deer carcasses with the camper in the bed toughness of camper? everyone will know im driving a raper mobile SUV Pros potentially cheaper than a truck/camper combo has heat and ac for sure roof rack for gear to maximize sleeping space can use for hauling people and gear to destination trips not as rapey cons need a small trailer to haul MC's and deer (storage for small trailer) less amenities i'd rather have a truck Audible option 3 throw a "Leer" type cap on an extended truck bed and sleep in there with a -20 deg bag and cushy ground pad. Otis Nice
i'd rather have a truck /thread If you'd rather have a truck get one, then figure out the rest. Don't settle for something that is anything less than what you want.

craig71188
Truck + small "Toy Hauler" - no bigger to store than a truck camper, will haul bikes and have basic amenities. Something like this: http://www.rvt.com/rvdetail4726901.htm or similar?

Tshensley
+1 for the toy hauler and you get the truck you want or Dodge MegaCab so you can sleep inside where the heat is
xlr8tn
you should also look at a really small pop up camper. I had one when I first moved up from tents that had 2 beds that folded out and a small table in it. Bought it for $300...used it for 12 years and sold it for $200. Sturg1647545502
Yea it seems like a truck is the way to go. I could even sleep in the back before i poney up for a camper. As far as a pull behind or a pop up I feel like I don't need that much room or space and id like to avoid pulling a trailer up some iced over mountain pass. xlr8tn
something else they make that a buddy of mine has is a tent that goes in the back of the truck. He puts an air mattress in it and says it sleeps pretty good. http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/jj37/0rion_album/napier_sportz_truck_tent_55_series_zpsea340b0a.jpg

BloodRed
Or you could go with either the SUV or truck and do a vehicle roof tent like the ones on this link. I know a lot of "expedition" guys use these. http://www.cascadiatents.com/
