ICEMAN1647545504
So I hear the stock damper/balancer is not too reliable on these. I looked at an ATI damper, but it just seems so darn pricey. Is it worth getting it? When is it worth getting, and is it really that big of a deal on these? Thanks. Cordell
The balancer is more prone to spinning and throwing the bolt out so they should be pinned if they are raced since it's just pressed on with no keyway. Otherwise there are plenty of balancers out there.
TurboNova
professional products balances are a cheap alternative and have a 3 bolt face for a puller as well. sfi or not option http://www.professional-products.com/7-5-LS-1-LS-1-Camaro-Firebird-some-GM-trucks-SUVs-p474.html http://www.professional-products.com/7-5-LS-1-LS-1-Camaro-Firebird-some-GM-trucks-SUVs-p431.html mines not pinned and I also run a mandrel on the front to run my belt drive fuel pump. ICEMAN1647545504
Are they prone to going out of balance? Falling apart?
ICEMAN1647545504
$250 is not that bad I guess. Nothing wrong with mine, just more of a caution thing.
TurboNova
good reviews on bullet and tech...I have no issues on mine. I guess if mine ever fails I might look at an ATI or the like but for now Im fine with the one I have now

Cordell
mines not pinned and I also run a mandrel on the front to run my belt drive fuel pump. Mine isn't pinned either, it just seems to be more common then the balancer coming apart. I have seen them come apart though so it's not a bad idea to get a decent one. I have an SLP underdrive balancer that is sfi rated on the Camaro with no issues.
MrMeanGreen
Mine is pinned for extra insurance.

ICEMAN1647545504
Not supercharged. Bolt on and a little shot on it.
imstock2
I have a like new ATI balancer.. Has 0 miles on it.. Came with the motor I bought but wouldn't clear my steering rack so I had to pull the engine and swap it out with the power bond. Lmk of you want it.. I'll sell it 1/4 less than you will find anywhere else
xlr8tn
normally when those balancers come off it's because they weren't torqued down properly or people trying to reuse the stock bolt. Unless your supercharged I wouldn't worry about pinning it.....just torque it down correctly with a new bolt.
Brandon
Get the ATI balancer and sleep better at night, and pin the crank from the side. Best solution on the market for a stock crankshaft car, pricey or not.
