Draco-REX
I like this... But I'm not sure how effective it'd be. If the image remains without power, why not yank the electronics out of the back? http://www.wspa.com/story/22553084/switch-to-electronic-license-plates-could-improve-sc-highway-safety

macpyro2
Faraday cage around the transmitter once you get your initial plate number. Cops will be to busy looking for red letters and not notice an uninsured "clean" plate. I also see hacking into this device potentially being a problem. xlr8tn
I can't begin to imagine what the state would charge for those.......already pay a shit ton for a little piece of metal.

unfunnyryan
Would get hacked too easily, whole state gets reprogrammed to very kind words.
mmrmnhrm
I actually rather like the idea... instead of having electronic billboards saying "Amber alert: Silver Nissan Rogue w/ plate ABC1234", just having the plate itself flashing "HELP ME CALL POLICE", along with the mentioned suspended/revoked license or insurance... would go a lot further in getting deadbeats off the road than our party plates do. Would get hacked too easily, whole state gets reprogrammed to very kind words. But then there's this... and hilarity ensues :masturboy:
Farkas
In for hacking plates and changing themes. I'd put Goatse on my plate for the lulz.
jerrodh
Pro tip: They say how much it'll cost in the video. So I what you pay $50-100 for plates now that cost $3.00 to make. So logic would say if we have to buy $100.00 plates they would cost a lot more than that. Interesting idea maybe in 20-30 years. I see this working better as a standard on cars one day, not a way for the BMV to rape us.
Green Bastard
It would be too easy to rob a bank or something with a hacked plate. Just drive away and change the number. So the .gov would be happy they are getting theirs while crime just continues to go up.

I could go for that... maybe lock the "plate" to the VIN, and include the VIN as part of the encryption key. Should *hopefully* cut down on the hacking :gabe:
