Identify the LSX

Picked up what I was told to be a re-built 5.3, but had some 6.0 stampings on it. It's been a while since I've played with an LQ4 to remember the difference. Here's some numbers and pics to help. Thanks.

What are the head casting numbers?

If they are factory heads If my memory is right

035- 2001-2004 LQ9

873- 1999-2001 LQ4

317- 2001/2002+ LQ4 and LQ9

862, 706, 799 are all 4.8/5.3 heads I believe. Could be more, just those I remember.

I'll do research to confirm.

unless someone swapped heads.... can always take the head off, and look at the piston... that shoudl tell you quickly too...

I was going to say pull a head, but I was saving that for last...lol. Most truck motors don't get torn apart and tinkered with like an LS motor would. But who knows hahah

It's stamped 6.0l so there is no doubt that it's a 6L. The 5.3 say 5.3 or 4.8/5.3.

Yes 243's came on all kinds of motors, including 5.3's but mainly on ls6 and ls2 motors. We know it's not an ls1 based on the 6.0l stamping.

Just odd someone would say it was a rebuilt 5.3, when in reality it could be an LS2 lol. If that's the case someone got lucky as hell.

The iron block 6.0L is cast on the front of the block. I'm going to guess that is an aluminum block since its stamped on, so that would be an LS2.

If we get free time at work, we're probably going to break into it. Looking into a small cam since we'll have it apart. It's got a 24 tooth reluctor ring, so I'm thinking more LS2 at the moment.

Better plan on lifters and AFM delete, looks to have the active fuel management shit installed. Not sure of the RPO code but I'm thinking it to be for a later model truck since most trucks if not all until 2008 used a 24 tooth reluctor wheel, and AFM didn't come out until more recently. Intersting find as this doesn't seem to be a popular version of LSx, being an aluminum 6.0L with 24x crank trigger and AFM and cathedral heads. An iron block would make more sense. I look forward to seeing it apart.

Isn't there a number cast on the block right behind the driver's side head? That should be the block's part number.
