wnaplay1647545503
Doesn't necessarily look old but they have been very good at making old pieces look new and new pieces look old. Is there any stampings or markings underneath the hutch or on the back?

wnaplay1647545503
Truly old pieces are inconsistent in build. Look at the joints especially on the drawer. Are the dovetails or however its put together very uniform like a more modern day machine might make or inconsistent leaning more towards hand made. How about any carvings? Are they very smooth and uniform or do they look hand done. The best way to identify something is to first date it.

The description I see most commonly associated with something like that is "Breakfront Secretary". Could aid you in your search.

mrs.cos
Looks like a French Provincial piece from the 50's/60s. Which is pretty common. Not worth a whole ton. My grandmother loved this look. It was always handme down furntireu in my family. Good luck with that price, i dont htink you will get anywhere near that. I dont say that to be rude, but i dont think its worth that much. Im lookign specificly for information about hte pineapple and have yet to find anything with it. I have been to hundreds of estate and antique auctions. If you ever were to go plain city auction house they have 2 separate auction rings going on at the same time. The front room has the antiques and the back room/2nd ring has the more modern items and this piece would have been placed there. Like I say this just my opinion. It never hurts to ask more and take offers.

Sometimes on the tops furniture and clocks they are called finials which is just a term for a decorative ornament usually made out of carved wood . The pineapple is known to be a symbol of welcome. You will find the pineapple on many things including at the ends of curtain rods, tops of bed post, etc. Edited December 6, 2013 by BrianZ06
mrs.cos
Right but i was searching for a specific provincial maker who used it frequently in its peices or a specific line. Different styles if finials will help delineate a value of a peice.
