Streaming Video

Do you stream anything else via wifi? Netflix on a ps3 in another room, youtube on your cell phone, porno on the ipad in the bathroom ?

Reason why I ask is if you have 2 devices using wifi for streaming you are going to run into issues. One device will take up most of the bandwidth and the other will suffer. If so I suggest you hardwire your house. It is not that hard to drop a wire or a few from the top floor all the way to the basement. You can do it through the walls in the middle of the house or use cold air ducts. Won't take long at all of you have a wire snake.

I recently got tired of certain youtube videos and DirecTV on demand shows buffering all the damn time. I already have the fastest internet Time Warner provides in my area so I turned to router settings and this is what worked for me.

If your router and all devices connected to your wifi are Wireless-N compatible then I'd suggest going into the router settings and tell it to transmit only Wireless-N. All my TV's, phone and tablet was wireless-n compatible except my PS3, but that all changed when I got a PS4 and I haven't had any issues since.

You're now the proud recipient of 2 Mr. Schnauzee's. But choose wisely, for while the true Schnauzee will bring you life, the false Schnauzee will take it from you.

Yeah, hadn't thought about that. I'll be sure to donkey punch my wife if I catch her browsing Facebook on her phone while I'm trying to watch Justice League on the Roku.

log into your router and see if all the hostname/computer names of the devices hooked up to your DHCP service looks like your devices. Maybe a neighbor is riding your internet.

You should be able to prioritize some of the traffic aswell to help.

This would actually take a skill I do not possess. You used like 14 words I don't understand.

You too are talking over my head. I understand things like "turn on the power" and "click the red x."

lol.. what about the other side of the outlet adapter, located at your router and stuff?

Also, does the Roku have wifi built-in? I don't know much about them.

What? - that's my response to your first question. I can draw more in MS paint if you'd like. But first I need to understand what you'd like visualized. The outlet thing or my router - because they are in two different places. The router is down in the basement.

Yeah, the Roku has built in WiFi. I switched to that last night and all my problems went away, even my nagging cocaine addiction.

Sorry, I pictured it as the same contraption as my Slingbox setup (below). Basically, how does that "outlet adapter thing" work?

Slingboxes bridge network traffic over the household's power grid. I was having issues with wifi interference and this magically makes it a wired connection.

No, I wasn't streaming porn on my laptop while I was also trying to watch XXX movies on my Roku.

Classic...... Even though this is a serious thread, it has a humor factor too. This thread delivers, bless you Tilly!

That is pretty excessive in my opinion. You make more money than me plus you are better looking. You must be correct and I must be wrong.
