I'm being an ass in the tech section when all I should have posted was, can you provide any more info about your A/C issues? Or if you want recommendations on a shop or how to fix it? Edited by Cordell

I will give you one piece of advice. Check to see if the compressor has a large orange wire(bundle) going into it/check your owners manual/check with multiple sources. I know the later Prius has a true electric hybrid compressor - not 100% sure on the 2000.

If it has the electric compressor DO NOT use any retail store "recharge with oil added" cans, nor take it to anyone who does not do a lot of hybrid a/c work. Contamination with non-hybrid oil COULD mean replacing EVERYTHING in the system.

While these use conventional refrigerant, the oil used is a "non-conductive" oil and as little as 2%-3% can trigger an electrical fault and shut down the system. This amount of contamination is POSSIBLE to get from simply reusing a gauge set that has been on another car with conventional compressor oil. Shops that do hybrids will typically have a dedicated set of tools for them to avoid cross contamination.

Car blows some mildly colder air but not super cold as it should

ie.. why I thought it may need a re-charge

I was looking for shop recommendations or if someone owned a shop that would assist me

thanks
