Zx2guy19
Hey guys, Trying to help my dad sell his Thunderbird. Truthfully, we had no idea where to price it, as most are either big giant pieces of shit or fully, fully restored. Neither of us are older car price experts, so please, feel free to let me know if we are totally off our rocker. Link to CL ad: see below Thanks! Geeto67
couple of things to add to your ad that might make it more attractive: - is it the original numbers matching engine? old cars like this are always more attractive and worth more as numbers matching than if it had an engine replacement at some point in its life. If you don't know how to tell here is some info - On the 390 Thunderbird engine the engine identification tag is located under the left front intake manifold attaching bolt, it if it not the original engine or you still can't tell don't mention it: http://www.fordification.com/tech/enginetagcodes_6572cars.htm - Is it the original exterior/interior color combo? Obviously the outside has been repainted but what does the data plate tell you? There are some T-bird guys who are looking for some of the rarer color Thunderbirds (emberglo, frost turquoise, Phoenician Yellow) cars and you might have one and not know it. It may not add value but it might get more people interested. If you need help decoding the data plate here: http://www.tbird.org/DataPlate/vdata.htm - Emphasis that the common rusted areas are solid. 64-66 T-birds tend to rust/rot in the rear floor and sill area as well as the base of the roof (esp if a landau top) , so if those are not thin, weak, or otherwise rotted then noting that the could seem more attractive. - Does it have A/C? I thought I saw A/C vents and a compressor under hood. Sometimes A/C in an old car is very attractive. if so - mention it. Good luck with sale. Zx2guy19
Geeto- thanks so much for all that info. I will swing by my parents house tonight, but I am 99% sure it is the original engine. The previous owner was the original I believe, and he just did minor things so I doubt there was any kind of engine swapping. I'll also confirm the interior, but again, I'm 99% sure the teal interior is original. I believe I am registered on a Tbird forum for a years ago so may post it up there. I did google common rust areas and checked those prior to posting, all good to go there. It has AC but does not work. Parents don't know the cause. Thanks again, awesome info. Zx2guy19
I know, I lost them all when I switched Iphones- probably half of my pictures were lost. I was going to go to storage this weekend to grab new pictures. Thanks for the heads up!
Geeto67
If you are going to take new pictures, and you really want to sell the thing, make sure they are good pictures. Get the car in a distraction free background at dramatic angles, and make sure it is well lit. There is nothing worse than looking at pics that look like they were shot with a potato. here is a guide: http://www.wikihow.com/Take-Photographs-of-Cars

El Karacho1647545492
I'm no expert, but this is a car that might be very good for auction. A classic car auction can definitely increase the value of the vehicle by allowing more eyes on it, and since they get a cut they have a vested interest in getting you as much money as possible for it. You may not get as much as you want, but it'll be a less arduous process and if it doesn't hit a number you want, you can have a reserve on it. Zx2guy19
That's not a bad idea. I think we may try to sell it through March/April (tax season) and then maybe try that from there. Any recommendations on good places?
El Karacho1647545492
That's not a bad idea. I think we may try to sell it through March/April (tax season) and then maybe try that from there. Any recommendations on good places? I don't know of any beyond the mega names like Barrett-Jackson, Mecum, RM, etc. Another thought would be that if it doesn't sell by then, take it to the Good Guys auto show. Where better than among hundreds/thousands of classic car enthusiasts who know a thing or two about restoration to try and sell?
El Karacho1647545492
Wow looks like Barrett-Jackson might throw you a bone! http://www.autofocus.ca/news-events/news/bottom-dollar-the-25-least-expensive-cars-at-barrett-jackson Scroll through the pics and you'll see a 1966 T-Bird hardtop sold for $7370. Not sure how it compares to yours, but now you know what a similar car will go for at B-J auction!

I think my dad's is quite a bit nicer...hopefully he has no trouble getting what he's asking. I have gotten a few request for pics on Craigslist, so I'll be doing that this weekend.
