First off, this is just a post I'm doing on a 1995 Mazda FD RX7, 60k original miles, nothing special here and I realize most on this forum probably are not interested, but its an automotive forum, and this is all I work on, so here it is. KD93R1 Posted October 19, 2014 Author Report Share Posted October 19, 2014 Obviously I would normally paint the iron engine pcs. when they were out, but that was not part of the deal. Nor was painting irons at all far as that goes, lol. However, they were nasty looking in my opinion and showing surface rust in many places, so I did em in car w/a brush. Clean and prep, primer, paint, and clear. All I did to the aluminum pcs. was brush off the flaking silver paint somebody else put on em. I normally bead blast them, no paint. Any loom used is Nylon. Cables are individually wrapped in 3M SUPER 88 tape and loomed where needed. Both positive and negative from battery in back to engine bay. 150amp marine grade, water submersible breakers w/button to trip off breaker. One by battery in passenger side bin behind passenger seat, and another in engine bay to kill power when needed from up front. Someday I will do a rotary build though as I like the engine, it just does not serve the purpose I want for my car right now. Keep up the good work though, I'd love to see more pics of the build. It is actually a tremendous undertaking to do one of these so that the engine bay when finished becomes a picture if you know what I mean. I am constantly planning ahead for the final products finished look. It has to have depth, perception, background, foreground. So it actually looks like a, picture. Well thats my own little world anyway, lol. Oh yeah, it has to run killer too. Thanks for the kind words though, really. I will continue w/the post. However, price for this is heavy and I like to give lots of extra perks when I do a big project on one. On ALL fuse boxes and relays, plugs removed and all the pins cleaned, many were in need. Dielectric grease applied after reconnected too . They all cleaned up really nice. This is not science fiction, its science fact! I admit, they are not for everyone so I can see why you would say that. However, this one will always be rotary. Plan is next winter for me to pull engine, port, upgrade seals, single turbo, big fuel, etc. I estimate approx. 500hp afterwards. The owner is a player on this build, I know he wants to take it up a notch soon. On another note, these cars, when done right can be extremely fast w/just 300-330 hp. Food for thought. These cars turn fine w/o PS in my opinion. AEM WB and TRUBOOST guages mounted in pillar. Remote commander mounted w/BANZAI holder.
