Coaster
OK so check your settings for IE: Control Panel > Internet > Connections > LAN Settings > Make sure everything under here is unchecked.

Coaster
Can you get files to that computer? If you want to download TeamViewer and get it over to that computer I'm willing to give you a call and then remote control it so I can see whats up. Mojoe
As much as I think that may help. Because I have work info on this computer, I can't do remote access that is not direct DOD support. Thanks though.
Coaster
Well there is the nuclear IE option: Control Panel > Internet > Advanced > Reset... Make sure you read what all it does on the confirmation window.
Not Brian
Click Start, then in the search field at the bottom type in "cmd" and hit enter. Type ipconfig and hit enter. What's your default gateway? Should be 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1. Type that into your internet address bar to log into your router. Your name/password should be admin/password, or just admin and blank. Depending on the router, it'll give you all kinds of info.
Coaster
Copying a FireFox install over to the computer might be of some use as well. It has its own settings and does not use the Windows Internet Settings like IE and Chrome do.
greg1647545532
When was the last time it worked? What happened since then? I'd check the proxy settings, make sure you're not trying to go through one. That happens to my govt laptop all the time when I connect on base and then bring it home, it behaves exactly as you describe.

everlight44
If your computer can update then it is something to do with your internet explorer settings. Try using chrome or firefox as a test if you can. If you can't, a reset of your internet explorer settings or a system restore (assuming you have a recent point) may be of use. Cmd / ipconfig / release / renew is also a decent command string... resets the connection.
Mojoe
Thanks for the help everyone. The fix: command prompt: netsh windsock reset reboot and browsers function fine now.
Coaster
I've never seen that needed when it wasn't in direct relation to a virus or after an Anti-Virus uninstall. Glad you got it going though.
