Green Bastard
I saw this on facebook and thought it was kind of nifty. http://www.enginelabs.com/news/liquidpiston-unveils-very-small-5-horsepower-70cc-rotary-engine/ The engine resembles a rotary motor in a lot of ways. The most impressive part to me though is the fact the engine is a little larger than an Iphone and puts out 3.5hp (though they think they can squeeze 5hp out of it with more rpm).
Not Brian
Bob's new 10,000 rpm lawn mower is exactly what I wanna wake up to on a Saturday morning
Green Bastard
I was thinking more along the lines of a larger more devoloped version in a car, though I am sure the technology would be applied to (likely unpopular) lawn mowers. Just like the rotary motors we have known for years.
Benner
I don't know why but I feel like therea ba rely any torque being produced. Maybe a twin rotor would assist in torque output beyond the doubling of horsepower
Smokey
Cool little engine and idea. Don't think it'd scale we'll enough to power vehicles but it could be useful in smaller applications.
JaSSon
Is there a video of the small engine running someplace?
TeddyBearFromHell
I wonder how it would do on a go-kart?
ShowHBK
Is there a video of the small engine running someplace? Sorry for the potato quality, but this is a video of the little parts and at the end the engine is running. Not the exact one in the images from the OP but still a very interesting video in my opinion. P.S. I want one of these <3 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a9Rk9IjEBRs I think the link in OP's post is actually one of the many different ways you can make a Rotary Engine, I have a book from the 70's which shows many different mathematical ways one "could" build a rotary engine, and I know this was one of the shapes. There were some crazy ones in there, like one that had over 8 combustion chambers. If I find the book ill post an image of the different types of Rotary engines they theorized. Edited December 9, 2014 by ShowHBK forgot to post link to video
ShowHBK
For anyone who is interested the engine in the OP's post closely resembles that of "Cookey's Rotary Steam Engine" from 1901 Edited December 9, 2014 by ShowHBK Typo
