Lauren Posted February 17, 2015 Report Share Posted February 17, 2015 Picked this up as a replacement to the Land Cruiser I flipped. I had a manual Disco I when I lived in Florida. Was a great daily and fun to drive. In 2012 I flew to Chicago to buy a disco II and it blew up in my 20 miles into the drive home. Played dominos in the ghetto and got a ride to the airport from a homie. Was quite tr fun adventure. Now I'm back in a Disco II. This one has had the HG replaced, water pump done. New power steering and lines. Has good hot heat and overall extremely clean. I added the late model hurricane wheels and a 31" so far. Have the later model front end going to go on in spring( new headlights bumper and grill). I've always liked Disco's but the 3 people close to me that had one or two always had a ridic amount of problems (granted, none of them were DIY car people). I remember my roommate had one leased around 2001 and I borrowed it to run some errands. I grabbed the rear door/hatch handle by the license plate and it crumbled in my hands. I sh!t you not, less than 3 years and 36k miles, and this metal handle totally rusted through. Thinking about it, one of the owners was my SiL, and she has a new LR4 that's an amazing vehicle...light years ahead of the Disco. CRed05 Posted February 17, 2015 Report Share Posted February 17, 2015 Nice. I had a facelifted Disco II, almost the same color just a bit lighter. It never gave me any issues at all. Went to an LR3 and it was a fantastic vehicle, just a little too heavy on fuel as a daily. It's a damn shame the diesels didn't make it over here or else I'd still be driving it. Second Gen Posted February 17, 2015 Report Share Posted February 17, 2015 Nice looking LR. I do not know why I have always wanted to pick up a LR Freelander and drop in a different drive trane. The motor/transmissions are problematic and would be fun to drop in a 3800 V6 maybe even forced (GN like). Either way enjoy the Jungle car/SUV.. Land Rovers use all or mostly aluminum body panels so it won't rust :thumbup: Well the LR3 and up I would say is the most reliable ones. It's after BMW sold it to Ford and they stopped using the old Rover V8 (originally a Buick). If you want to stick to a Disco I or II, I'd say the 2004 Disco II would be the way to go. Yeah as long as you can wrench or have a trustworthy mechanic that's kniws them they are great to Own. I had to make sure it had all the problem areas addressed so didnt have thousands to repair. It has been awesome in the snow. Plus what other car can you buy for cheap that has center locking doffs, leather and suede interior, heated front seats and windshield and rear window, seating for 7 and huge cargo space and looks badass? I think i like the lights of the newer front end but in general I like your front end more. If I don't like it I can always put the newer grill and bumper on. I wanna retrofit some hid's into the new headlights as well. I'm also doing a full led lighting in the Interior. To me, the newer lights look like ricer ebay garbage. Obviously they aren't, but they just look so hideously tacky to me. Personal preference. The other has this bumper I want a d the late model headlights( mine came in and going on as soon as it warms up a bit. ) this one also has 33's and a 2" lift. I'm on 32's and lift is in order.
