Lauren
Picked this up as a replacement to the Land Cruiser I flipped. I had a manual Disco I when I lived in Florida. Was a great daily and fun to drive. In 2012 I flew to Chicago to buy a disco II and it blew up in my 20 miles into the drive home. Played dominos in the ghetto and got a ride to the airport from a homie. Was quite tr fun adventure. Now I'm back in a Disco II. This one has had the HG replaced, water pump done. New power steering and lines. Has good hot heat and overall extremely clean. I added the late model hurricane wheels and a 31" so far. Have the later model front end going to go on in spring( new headlights bumper and grill). My 5 year old calls it her jungle car. http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee254/ca18det007/Mobile%20Uploads/0D40A847-E32E-4208-929F-BC088D08C2DC_zpsmatcwqqn.jpg

Lauren
Yes disco I come with a manual and they are fucking awesome to drive. Yeah these things are not for an average car owner. You have to stay on top on fluids and service constantly.
zeitgeist57
Manual Disco's are like hen's teeth these days. Congrats on the new purchase! I've always liked Disco's but the 3 people close to me that had one or two always had a ridic amount of problems (granted, none of them were DIY car people). I remember my roommate had one leased around 2001 and I borrowed it to run some errands. I grabbed the rear door/hatch handle by the license plate and it crumbled in my hands. I sh!t you not, less than 3 years and 36k miles, and this metal handle totally rusted through. Thinking about it, one of the owners was my SiL, and she has a new LR4 that's an amazing vehicle...light years ahead of the Disco. Again...I do love the machine and they are unique to drive...just not at all the reliability I'd want in even a 3rd/4th car...
Geeto67
how does a car company from a country where it rains so much one could say it spends part of it's time underwater make a car where parts rot out that quick? So say someone wanted to own a manual trans disco? what's the best year to look for? Disco I? II? which one should be avoided at all cost? color me intrigued. CRed05
Nice. I had a facelifted Disco II, almost the same color just a bit lighter. It never gave me any issues at all. Went to an LR3 and it was a fantastic vehicle, just a little too heavy on fuel as a daily. It's a damn shame the diesels didn't make it over here or else I'd still be driving it. Second Gen
Nice looking LR. I do not know why I have always wanted to pick up a LR Freelander and drop in a different drive trane. The motor/transmissions are problematic and would be fun to drop in a 3800 V6 maybe even forced (GN like). Either way enjoy the Jungle car/SUV.. Land Rovers use all or mostly aluminum body panels so it won't rust  Well the LR3 and up I would say is the most reliable ones. It's after BMW sold it to Ford and they stopped using the old Rover V8 (originally a Buick). If you want to stick to a Disco I or II, I'd say the 2004 Disco II would be the way to go. It was the last year they made them and with available with all 3 locking diffs.
Lauren
Manuals only came on disco I's. Mine was a 1996. Yeah as long as you can wrench or have a trustworthy mechanic that's kniws them they are great to Own. I had to make sure it had all the problem areas addressed so didnt have thousands to repair. It has been awesome in the snow. Plus what other car can you buy for cheap that has center locking doffs, leather and suede interior, heated front seats and windshield and rear window, seating for 7 and huge cargo space and looks badass? Not many out there and they are cheap enough that it didn't have to put a dent into my 997 fund
zeitgeist57
Have the later model front end going to go on in spring( new headlights bumper and grill). I think the current rectangular lights look more classic...LR was trying too hard introducing the multi-lens headlights on newer Disco's. http://www.mercedesexpert.com/inventory/view/2686251/2004-Land-Rover-Discovery-SE-Naples-FL Funny that this thread pops up as this link above is from the guy I bought my BMW and Jag from in FL. That can be had for cheaper than listed and paintwork could be perfected for about $800...FYI :masturboy:
Versluis
Nice! Was this a local car, specifically from the east side of central columbus?
Fubar231
Im really torn between which front end I like more... I think i like the lights of the newer front end but in general I like your front end more. Looks more offroad/aggressive and not so bland. http://photos.ecarlist.com/9g/nH/29/N6/MQ/DD/Q2/a2/1Y/st/lA_640.jpg http://media.ed.edmunds-media.com/landrover/discovery/2003/oem/2003_landrover_discovery_4dr-suv_hse_fq_oem_1_500.jpg
Lauren
The compromise is using the grill and bumper I have and just using the lights. I love this look as well and it's just a simple light swap not a whole front end. http://i3.ebayimg.com/01/i/001/32/98/8d85_35.JPG http://www.4x4community.co.za/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=100071&d=1308046574

If was from Columbus but not the east side. Like 30-40 mins outside Columbus.

zeitgeist57
Modern lights do look good with the original bumper and "wide" foglights. I still prefer the original headlights, but if you got'em already.....
Lauren
As soon as it warms up I'll put just the lights on and leave my bumper and grill. If I don't like it I can always put the newer grill and bumper on. I wanna retrofit some hid's into the new headlights as well. I'm also doing a full led lighting in the Interior. The body and interior design is timeless but the lighting needs to be modernized.

turbospec29
There is one of these in my neighborhood and it looks like its sitting on the bump stops in the rear. They have air suspension in the rear right?
Lauren
Not all of them. Mine is on coils all around. Some SE and HSE have what's called self leveling suspension. Stay far away from those.
2 Sweet
The current front end looks 100x better than the newer style, including the headlights. To me, the newer lights look like ricer ebay garbage. Obviously they aren't, but they just look so hideously tacky to me. Personal preference. Cool vehicle though  nice blend of luxury and utility. Any interior pics?

The other has this bumper I want a d the late model headlights( mine came in and going on as soon as it warms up a bit. ) this one also has 33's and a 2" lift. I'm on 32's and lift is in order. Whatcha think of this bumper http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee254/ca18det007/Mobile%20Uploads/01E8244E-A9C5-4F78-A18F-91F6D51F3BDD_zps5hd7q7na.png http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee254/ca18det007/Mobile%20Uploads/F6676C6F-58C6-43D6-BE19-30B83C297981_zpsazmgrdye.png http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee254/ca18det007/Mobile%20Uploads/161F4A69-A1F2-429F-B416-07C074F4C2C6_zpsopulnqjg.png
