Asking for support: "Hope for the Warriors" and the Smoky Mountain Rally

As some of you know, I've entered the 2015 Rally North America event, The Smoky Mountain Rally. Every year, Rally North America chooses a charity to benefit from the event, instead of having prizes for the winners. This year, "Hope for the Warriors" has been chosen as the beneficiary.

Hope for the Warriors is a national non-profit, founded in 2000 by military wives and still operated under the direction of them. They provide support to wounded U.S. veterans and their families. Read more about them here: http://www.kintera.org/faf/help/helpAboutOrg.asp?ievent=1125309&lis=0&kntae1125309=5476707346854D9E8B64A86687D2B33E

From July 13-16 we'll be covering about 2500 miles from Ohio through the Dixie states and back again, and will have events at Atlanta Dragway and Roebeling Raceway. More about this specific rally can be found here: http://www.kintera.org/faf/help/helpEventInfo.asp?ievent=1125309&lis=0&kntae1125309=5476707346854D9E8B64A86687D2B33E

And the Rally North America homepage: https://www.rallynorthamerica.com/

Over the last six years, CR has had great representation at the Rally North America events and has had numerous podium finishes. This year CR is represented by Coaster (Brian & Nikki) and me.

I'm driving the event solo and I'm taking the Slingshot. It will be the first time a 3-wheel vehicle will be competing in the national rally. With the open vehicle's exposure to the heat and rain, I'll be limited in the use of electronics for nav, problem solving, radar and laser detection, and the like. I'm going to rely on maps, friends, and a little luck. ;)

For the second year, we'll have Matt Farah from Smoking Tire/ iDrive along.

I'm asking friends (who are comfortable donating) to make an online donation through my page:http://www.kintera.org/faf/donorReg/donorPledge.asp?ievent=1125309&lis=0&kntae1125309=5476707346854D9E8B64A86687D2B33E&supId=414974247 Click on the blue button "GIVE NOW" on the right-hand side of the page. Donations are tax-deductable and you're emailed a receipt for tax purposes within the hour.

Your donation goes directly to the charity; none of it goes to the Rally or to my team. All of us are donating our time and paying all our own expenses (of course, we have a lot of fun in return, too).

I'm asking businesses to donate $100, and at that level I'll put your business advertising on the Slingshot. You can see there's room for more stickers:

Any donation from individuals, even $10, is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

P.S. Brian and Nikki made a great donation thread on CR. See it here http://www.columbusracing.com/forums/showthread.php?t=121623 and consider donating to their effort as well.

Decals look good! I hadn't thought about the large shield I'm glad they made you a mini one. :)

Even shrinking it down, it couldn't be put square on the hood. Not much in the way of flat surfaces on these contraptions. :)

Good luck Doc!

Thanks for your generous donation, Chandler.

Now those neat little wind shields would look GREAT with a certain sticker on them.. selling spots NASCAR style? Ala Fig Newtons? ;)

Sometimes it feels that way, Austin. The sponsor wants to give $10 and put a 30x40 decal on every door! I try to accommodate sponsors as best I can, and I thank them publicly at every opportunity.

Doc you have a pm. Thanks for doing this
Thank you David. I appreciate what you've done. I'll be calling Jeff tomorrow.

I think it goes without saying that everyone who meets you Doc appreciates you for who you are and what you do. We will be kicking in at the $100 mark and give you something Lucore to display. And if you need a tshirt/hat/coozie I'm sure we can find one, just make sure to get in Matt's Smoking tire episode in it! ;)

Thanks for the kind words and your support, Austin.

Let me buy a company shirt (I'm XXXL) and I will ask Matt to shoot me wearing it. ( :wtf: That sounded a bit wrong) I'm sure he'll shoot it, but I can't promise it'll make the final cut into the show.

Wheel Medic hit a homerun with their company donation :grin2:

Many thanks to Bryce, Hannah, Ronnie, and the whole crew.

One of the nicest logos I've seen:

It's looking good on the vehicle:

And heartfelt gratitude for Brian Wagner, CR admin, apparel magnate, and all-around good guy. :fuckyeah:

Placed appropriately in a prime position on the SS:

There's still plenty of room for sponsor stickers ($100 donation), but any and all donations to Hope for the Warriors is appreciated.

Will you guys do magnets, or are you only interested in doing decals?

I'll run magnets. It's a little harder since lots of the panels are aluminum. I know the hood and front fenders are aluminum and the doors and roof are steel. Didn't test the back half.

I'm not sure there is any place on Docs slingshot for a magnet. IIRC it's all fiberglass, plastic, or tubular.

Yes, that's correct. I don't have any flat surface area of sufficient size for a magnetic sign. :(

On the other hand, we can make a size-appropriate simple vinyl for you. Don't underestimate how much attention this vehicle gets, even in a field of 79 other rally cars. There's a small 7" x 1.5" decal placed along the edge of the body which is one of the first things you notice when you drive by the vehicle or walk up to it.

  • 2 weeks later...

Many thanks to Rich Lucore at Lucore Automotive. Besides making a generous donation to Hope for the Warriors, he and his staff hooked me up with some great swag for the charity auction at the Rally. And thanks to Austin for putting this all together.

There are still a few days remaining for anyone still wanting to contribute. My team has raised $810 towards a goal of $1,000. Here's the link:

http://www.kintera.org/faf/donorReg/donorPledge.asp?ievent=1125309&supId=414974247

And thanks to all those who have provided financial and/or moral support for this effort. :)
