cstmg8
I just got the drivers side head off of the Toyota 3.4 dohc. This truck has a blown head gasket a year ago and I put a bottle of bars sealer in it and dd'ed it for a year with no smoke. I was hoping to see more obvious evidence of the sealers work. Anyway, what do you think the difference in piston appearance means? Green Bastard
The cleaner pistons were likely getting steam cleaned by coolant. How do the plugs look?
cstmg8
Plugs weren't terrible, first was dry, other two were soaked of course. I meant to take pics, I'll get them tonight. I need to pick up a straight edge to check the heads.

cstmg8
Thinking maybe it was leaking from those top coolant ports to the cylinders. http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/08/12/712ac4c65510b29d66cd1abc56532191.jpg
cstmg8
So, NAPA in Newark can deck the heads and turn them around quickly for $100. Seems silly not to have them done, but am I making a mistake by not doing anything with the block?
cstmg8
Does anyone have a good source for a cheap straight edge? Doesn't look like harbor freight carries one.
zeitgeist57
Shaun, if the block is iron I wouldn't worry too much...definitely get the aluminum heads decked. I know you and I are in the same boat.

I wouldn't have been surprised if the next line said "remove the tailights before unbolting the alt bracket" lol.
zeitgeist57
YOU DIDN'T REMOVE THE TAILLIGHT FIRST?!? :gabe:
cstmg8
Lol. Right after I drained the turn signal fluid.
