Zx2guy19
Scheduled an install with WoW today for 30mbps service to be installed on Friday. Right now, I have AT&T and I rent a modem from them. My question is: if I keep cable, do I need a router AND a modem? Right now I rent SOMETHING from AT&T (I really don't know the difference), and I still have DirectTv. I was looking at this: https://www.amazon.com/TP-LINK-DOCSIS-Speed-Cable-TC-7610-E/dp/B01CH8ZNJ0/ref=sr_1_8?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1468338409&sr=1-8&keywords=modem Would this allow me to have wi-fi on multiple units and keep my satellite? I just don't want them to come Friday to install internet and not have the right stuff. Do I need to get a router/modem combo? Is it possible that's what I'm renting from AT&T now? CRed05
Yes you would need a router, unless you get an all in one like this https://www.amazon.com/ARRIS-SURFboard-SBG6580-DOCSIS-Router/dp/B0040IUI46

Mojoe
If I'm reading this correctly, you will have two different services, so you just need to be sure the wow connection is a modem that is comparable, which this one says it is with WOW. Direct TV should have its own items for connecting its signal to get to your TV. With that modem, it looks like you will still need a wifi router. I picked up this one last week from TP https://www.amazon.com/TP-LINK-Archer-C7-Wireless-1300Mbps/dp/B00BUSDVBQ/ref=pd_sim_147_2?ie=UTF8&dpID=41kCYj5mweL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR160%2C160_&psc=1&refRID=6681M1FESZDJ6XR3MNH0 But, I'm selling my old one https://www.amazon.com/D-Link-DIR-655-Xtreme-4-Port-Gigabit/dp/B0085IATWI/ref=sr_1_2?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1468339495&sr=1-2&keywords=d+link+655 for $40 if you need a router. If I recall, when I had it configured, it had to be set up as a bridge so I could run my own router, which has more wifi options and eithernet connections. Turbs3000
The wow modem is a router as well. So you'll hook it into the direct TV box for on demand content and just wirelessly connect all your other stuff to the wow modem like you normally would. The modem is rented for like $8 a month. You can replace it with a purchased one if you don't like a monthly fee.

airwg2189
Somewhat related - I had WOW when I lived downtown 2 years ago, their modem/router is kinda weak and didn't like having more than 5 or so wireless connections at any time, regardless of actual bandwidth use. Strongly recommend buying a decent one of your own if possible. It'll pay for itself in 2 years anyway.

I just want to make sure I have something at my house and ready when they get there that'll allow me to use internet and satellite.

It's a far more robust and reliable router and wireless access point than the ones built into any modem. It's super easy to set up (install the apple airport utility, free download) You don't get wireless AC, but how many of your devices support it anyways?
