unfunnyryan
$150 edit: better description from fb post Dell C1100 2x E5620 (also have 2x L5630 I'll toss in for a bit lower power consumption if desired) 96GB DDR3 (I need to boot it and double check) No HDD/SSD, but 4 drive caddies included. Rack mount rails. This was my VM workhorse for 3 years. Still has plenty of potential for virtualization or video/photo rendering/editing work, anything heavily multi threaded and demanding of RAM really. For around $50-60 on ebay you can get a pair of x5660 hex cores, which combined have a CPU mark score rivaling a Ryzen 1800x. Note: on a cold boot the fans will scream like jet taking off but after a minute it is quieter than some laptops I've owned (looking at you, HP) http://i.imgur.com/nZKVAvzl.jpg Edited August 23, 2017 by unfunnyryan
Exodus
How's this compare to the R710? Are those full size sata drive slots? Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
unfunnyryan
The R710 is borderline the same thing but a 2U unit. The "C" in C1100 was for "cloud" and dell meant to sell TONS of these things to be mass deployed. They don't have as nice of a management interface as the R series servers that may be sold one at a time. Yep, 4x full 3.5" SATA slots.

I'm working on a proxmox setup on my r710. Could use some 1333 ecc if you got it though. Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk

Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk Proxmox  I got 12x1GB (all hynix) and 2x4GB micron DDR3 ECC. All 1333 except the micron withoutthe heatspreader, which is 1600mhz. They're all working pulls IIRC, only reason the two 4gb sticks aren't in the box is due to trying to keep matched pairs in triple channel. Want any of it? http://i.imgur.com/dG55DNLl.jpg
