Mace1647545504
just bought an 08 Sierra and about 3 days ago it popped a cel. So I grab my trusty ol reader (probably 10 years old) plug it in ,it goes through it's thing and I get a link error. Turn the key back off, pull the connector and plug it back in assuring it is in tight, hit enter it does it's thing and bam link error Any ideas if the 08 has something weird going on or is it possible my read is shot? Thanks mace
Benner
Are you getting any power out of the obd2? If not check your Cig lighter fuse. Most GM vehicles use the cig/accessory powercircuit to power the obd2 port.
Cordell
I bet you pocket scanner isn't CANbus compatible. Get a new scanner. If it's powering up it's not a fuse in the car.

Cordell
There are so many options out there, anything sold currently should work fine for pulling codes. It's when you want more out of it that you need to spend more. Launch and Autel are a couple companies I've used that work great for a cheaper price, I have a handheld Lauch that does Engine, trans, ABS, and Airbag codes that only cost like $350, its what I use for quick stuff rather then setting up all my factory GM stuff. So just getting something to do Engine/trans shouldn't be more then $50.
