zeitgeist57
Just picked up my newest truck: 2001 Silverado. It’s got an AM/FM radio but only one of the door speakers works and it doesn’t change tone. Anyone have factory/bolt-in headunit and speakers for super cheap? Not trying to bump shit; just wanting NPR and an FM modulator for Sirius/Spotify. Thanks!
Benner
Best bet is to hit a pull-it-yourself yard. Any 2000-2006ish, GM full-size truck or SUV should work. That or a $30 Wal-Mart receiver with mount.
-Alex-
Crutchfield.com has several cheap head units and door speakers, they include installation hardware and instructions for free and ship super fast.
brent1976
It’s the head unit making the speaker not work. Just get a cheap head unit a dash mount kit and a conversion harness. It will take you about half an hour to put in.
Richard Cranium
I was planning on swapping out the head unit in my 05 Avalanche for a touch screen unit so I can run a backup camera. The stereo works flawlessly is why I haven't gotten around to it. You're welcome to mine if you haven't found something by the time I get mine done. vonrottes
I have the one out of my dads 2005 silverado. the CD player does not work... but am/fm works fine... not sure if it will work in a pre'
zeitgeist57
Thanks, guys! I really appreciate the offers. I'll look to see per Vonrottes' comment if '03+ stereos work in an '01. They seem to all be NBS GM trucks...I think things definitely got newer after '05-'06...
zeitgeist57
http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/topic/21506-stereo-swap-in-1998-z71/ Meh...I got pics on an '04 Tahoe headunit...I'll need to pull the radio in my '01 to see if there's any interchangability with newer units. Thanks again guys. :dumb: I'd really like to not spend much money for a cheap aftermarket unit that requires a wiring harness and leaves a stupid gap in the dash. zeitgeist57
After looking at car-part.com for used headunits, I bought new Polk 6.5”s from Shaun (Cstmg8) figuring I’d want to swap out new speakers anyway. Thankfully, it WAS just that. I didn’t realize the door speakers on Silverados/Tahoe’s/Suburbans go out with noticeable frequency.
