This has always been a thing. They used make TV shows about it (and still do). Anybody remember "That's Incredible!"? I do, that was a fun show. I missed "You Asked For It" but saw it in re-runs and occasionally watched "Ripley's Believe it or not". The only difference between that and youtube is there isn't a real FCC censor and the budget is much cheaper. Before there were TV's there were freakshows and sideshows, so people love a spectacle.
