Intervention time?

I think I need some interventions about my next vehicle choice.

I’m currently rocking an ultra reliable 2000 Toyota 4Runner 5speed. As the weather turn warmer I want to sell it and get an AUDI ALLROAD QUATTRO with the 2.7tt engine and 6 speed manual transmission. Someone please stops me!!

Let's talk about issues -

Oil leaks - turbos, valve covers, cam seals - all of which are labor intensive

Timing belts due to poorly sourced parts the first replacement

Plastic Impeller water pumps (should be changed to metal at replacement)

Cam chain tensioners - also a oil leak spot at back of heads

Ball joints in the front suspension (8 total)

Tie rods seizing that then require replacement due to rubber bushings

Front Axle boots tear

AIR SUSPENSION - need I say more? It's garbage

The cooling system as a whole sucks, heater cores clog, auxiliary water pumps fail, the thermostat is 5.6 hours because it's BEHIND THE WATERPUMP.

Secondary air injection system failure - the pump fails, or fills with water and fails, the old plastic hoses are brittle and break trying to remove them for other service

Flex Pipes fail at high rates and are incredibly expensive

Alarm system issues with randomly going off and difficult at times to diagnose

Thank you sir! You’ve won this contest.

I actually saw one of these allroads last week in the trader joe's parking lot. 2.7T and a stick. I was dumbstruck to actually see one on the road as I haven't seen a non v8 allroad in years, let alone a stick one. My wife couldn't understand why I was making a fuss over a dark beige station wagon.

This one had coil overs in place of the air bags (if you think I am above crawling on the ground next to a strangers car in a parking lot I can assure you I am not) and I think that most that are still on the road will have had the airbag system swapped out. Then again this could be the last one on the road in Columbus for all I know.

I feel like this is one of those cars that is a labor of love to own, like an 8-series bmw, a mazda rotary, or a v-10 M5 - you have to be prepared to work on it yourself and do some pretty intensive repair and maintenance items at home because paying someone else will just drain your bank account.

Still miss my B5 very much!

Ps. We need to meet up this summer so I can see the old girl.
