Lawyer advice needed

Co-worker buddy of mine is having some issues with Ohio Mulch.

He went there with his truck, got a load of dirt and as the guy (not certified to operate a front loader and was later fired) was loading it he slammed the bucket into the side of his bed rail causing some damage. Ohio Mulch originally said get 3 quotes and we will pay to fix it. So he gets 2 quotes both around $3k, and submits them to the lawyer for Ohio Mulch. Lawyer responds and says "We'll give you $500". There was a sign in the lobby that says "we are not responsible for any damage to your vehicle" and he is worried he is going to get screwed out of getting his truck fixed.

What should he do next?
