How about a Titanium or Gunmetal Gray with your lettering done in a brighter color (orange, yellow, hi-lighter green, blue, etc.)?

a nice deep blue (like a navy, but less purpleish) with black and chrome accents looks really good

I decided on tangerine candy flames with lots of metal flake over basic black with silver striping. Still waiting for my fairing to get here so the spray can fly, but here's a PhotoShopped example.

have you thought about any matte colors? triumph has a sick orange that is flat on their street triple R.

a matte gray or white would be interesting... although I have not seen a matte white yet, only gray, black and orange.
