i have been thinking about getting a 10 22 for fun and to just plink around with. i wanna be able to go out and blow off some steam and shoot alot with out spending hoards of money.

i have been looking an these things look like they have plenty of aftermarket support to customize and make "your own." buckeye outdoors has them on sale right now for $199 and i didnt think that was to bad at all...

any thoughts or suggestions?

I was in the same situation at the begining of the year. I looked at a few 22 rifles that retail for under $200. I wanted something good out of the box. Check out www.rimfirecentral.com for a ton of info on rimfire rifles.

I purchased a Savage MKII bolt action with scope for $159 at Dicks Sporting Goods. A few weeks later, a Marlin 795 semi-auto with no scope for $129, also at Dicks. It got old quick with the bolt action, manually ejecting the spent round each time. But I still like the bolt action.

I looked at the Remington 597, but that retails for closer to $200.

In my opinion, the Savage is more accurate then the Marlin.

I have a Rem 597 22lr good gun for the money it has a weaker aftermarket for sure but there is still stuff out there for it. I liked the size of it over the 10/22 better. A bit bigger then a 10/22 almost the size of a rem model 700. And they are cheaper to boot. 10/22 is a good gun I have shot one before, but it is kinda small.
