forgive my ignorance of the street scene, but is the lowered kick-stand to accommodate 'drag' bikes that have the suspension significantly lowered, or is it just fashionable to have your bike leaning over further than stock on the kick stand?

No problem at all. These stands are made for bikes that have been lowered. If not the bike will stand straight up, almost to the point of tipping over depending on how far it has been lowered.
