ReconRat
Try this, I think it's free.National Insurance Crime Bureauhttps://www.nicb.org/theft_and_fraud_awareness/vincheck/vincheckAnd these for VIN decoding (tons of these are not free, but they look like it at first):http://search.dmv.org/dmv/vin-number-checkhttp://www.motoverse.com/vinDecoding.aspOther than that, a lot of engine numbers match the frame, and can be checked on a parts web site.A good parts website will show what range of serial numbers were for each year. The shop manual often does also. ReconRat
If it's a 17 digit number, it most likely is the VIN. I don't know what year it started, but modern engine numbers are mostly the same as the frame VIN. Have you considered asking a Kawasaki shop what they can do?edit: Nope, sorry. From what I see, the engines have either an 8 or a 13 digit number, or both. Not the same. Edited September 4, 2010 by ReconRat
ReconRat
I don't know if cylinder head part numbers are visible anywhere, but this is the numbers for 2005 and 2006.11008-003911008-0062edit: I get the impression from the internet that the Kawasaki dealership can look up engine numbers and match them to a frame VIN. That might also let you check for stolen. Edited September 4, 2010 by ReconRat
