looking for a simple head unit for my truck...must have mp3 capability, and have a front aux port...dont really want sony xplod junk...but i dont wanna spend more than like 120-130...

ive seen some nice kenwoods and stuff for sale on best buys site...i typed in the info for my truck, and im getting a lot of ones that say "this item does not fit your vehicle"

im a total car audio noob....i dont understand how a headunit can not fit my vehicle.....its a single din, same as stock...and some of the single dins show and some dont....wtf is the difference?

example

this one fits

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Alpine+-+45W+x+4+In-Dash+CD+Deck+with+Flip-Down+Detachable+Faceplate/9176198.p?id=1218045946194&skuId=9176198

this one doesnt

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Kenwood+-+50W+x+4+MOSFET+Apple%26%23174%3B+iPod%26%23174%3B-Ready+In-Dash+CD+Deck/9760624.p?id=1218168618626&skuId=9760624

what am i missing?

according to best buy...this is the cheapest one that does what i want it to do, and still fits

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Alpine+-+45W+x+4+In-Dash+CD+Deck+with+Flip-Down+Detachable+Faceplate/9176198.p?id=1218045946194&skuId=9176198

while it looks nice...i dont see why this one wont work, it does the same shit, for cheaper

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/JVC+-+50W+x+4+MOSFET+Satellite+Radio-/HD+Radio-Ready+In-Dash+CD+Deck/9766637.p?id=1218169734272&skuId=9766637

or this

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Kenwood+-+50W+x+4+MOSFET+Apple%26%23174%3B+iPod%26%23174%3B-Ready+In-Dash+CD+Deck/9760624.p?id=1218168618626&skuId=9760624

also, i realize that nothing i get from best buy will be top of the line...this is a radio thats going into my truck, going to be accompanied by some average middle grade door speakers and nothing else...no subs, amps, nothing....just a radio...just tired of my shitty stock radio going staticy, and i hate my tape deck adapter for my ipod

i know this is a bike site....but due to recent events (lulz) youre all i got

yea i like the alpine...but i am really wanting to run the kenwood because it has usb port for my ipod so i dont have to run a charger off my cig lighter

**edit..i guess the alpine does too

i know i shouldnt bitch over an extra $20...i just dont understand why the kenwood wont work...but i guess i didnt consider dimensions..i just assumed single din was single din

after buying the alpine, buying the cord, wiring harness, paying tax, shipping etc...im looking at $200 or a hair over...more than i want to spend...but i guess if its my only option i might just have to

i think i can control ipod through the stereo though which is a big plus...i can just stick my ipod under the dash or somewhere that i dont have to look at it anymore (it never leaves my truck anyways)

DIN is the size and shape of the opening. Some units with so many features and watts need deeper chassis and even extension faceplates dont work.

And it's alarm time.

ok...so i guess ill go with the alpine

and what do you mean alarm time? if you mean its time for me to get one...ide like to, but dont see it happenings...ill just take the faceplate inside with me...and i dont plan to have crazy bass blowing my doors off while rolling down the streets lol...just an average radio system

Crutchfield. Got a cheapo Kenwood for the Avalanche when the stocker gave up the ghost. Better than I had hoped. Remote control, aux input, removable face. Less than $100 if I remember correctly, with installation kit.

ill google crutchfield...not sure what that is but im assuming its a website? lol

ok im on crutchfield....best buy has them beat on price for the speakers...only by $5 though, but best buy is local which is a bonus for me..

hmm....crutchfield has head units for me, that come with all installation stuff, for cheaper than best buy has just the head unit!

ugly as shit...but oh well lol

I put this in the workvan.

http://www.walmart.com/ip/Dual-60-Watt-Mechless-AM-FM-Receiver-with-AUX-USB-Ports/14658878

Its 60 watts, has no CD player and has a 3.5mm input plus a SD card input. I have my old phone memory card in there. Works great and sounds good for a $40 radio. Speakers are ford "premium" sourced from the junkyard.

Can't go wrong with Alpine or Kenwood. I like Alpine's ergonomics better.

What I meant by alarm is you should get one. Even if you take your faceplate inside, they'll think it's in there. They'll also have visions of amps and subs, crossovers and heavy wiring. What I'm saying is that just seeing a head without a faceplate and no alarm is going to invite a break-in.

I've made models of stock radio faceplates. The systems they hid were other worldly.
