I have an 11 year old dog and she would do the same...protect our home...they could have retreated back out the door. It is just so easy to shoot a poor animal. Trigger happy, that is all I can say. She growled at them, that does not make a dog a biter. For most of those family pets, you make one step towards them, they retreat. Sad....
