If anyone is interested.

I have a 1996 plymouth neon. green 4dr 5 spd.

Has approx. 186K on it.

Motor has a knock when you start it but goes away when it is warm. I drove it from Pataskala to Zanesville for 4.5 years. Parked it when we moved to Blue ROck and started driving my truck again.

It definately needs a brake line from the front to the back. or a splice put into it.

Car starts everytime. Last year put in a starter and 6 months before that put in a fuel pump.

Stereo stopped working but when checked it was fine. If it is a relay I cant find it... Checked the fuses everything looks to be OK? Top dash is cracked ($15 at u-wrench it) headliner is falling down (10 at u-wrench it).

Front tire (drivers side) needs replaced or slimed, hole in the sidewall :nono:.

Just little things. First 400 gets it.

I don't see this lasting long.

It has had it since it had 96,000 on it and I replaced the head gasket... i checked everything when I tore it down and could not find anything. Replaced the head at 120,000. Still doing it...

I mean cheese and rice it is a 400.00 1996 neon...

dont want to sound like I am bitching... But really what do you expect?

Not knocking it as a daily driver, that was just in reference to the ENDURANCE RACING suggestion. Sustained high revs tend to find the weak points in a motor real quick.

the $500 budget is kind of a joke anymore.

how to fix engine knock: 3 spare motors.

seriously, check out their photo albums on facebook. they had a picture series titled, "how to win LeMons with a Taurus SHO," and it was a picture of the 5 or 6 parts cars the team brought with them. Another team had a mustang engine in their SHO.

i think LeMons has kind of morphed into a redneck engineering competition more than anything. Not that I consider that a bad thing - but there's no way in hell you can win anymore with the $500 budget (which doesn't include safety gear, tires, and brakes, IIRC)

it would be a LOT of fun to have an OR team though. I'd be in for $100 or so just to crew and hang out.
