SCRANTON, Pa.—A northeastern Pennsylvania judge was ordered Thursday to spend nearly three decades in prison for his role in a massive bribery scandal that prompted the state's high court to toss thousands of juvenile convictions and left lasting scars on the children who appeared in his courtroom and their hapless families.

Former Luzerne County Judge Mark Ciavarella Jr. was sentenced to 28 years in federal prison for taking a $1 million bribe from the builder of a pair of juvenile detention centers in a case that became known as "kids for cash."

what shitbags... profiting off of locking people up.

and he said he's already been punished enough and asked for leniency... :nono:

I remember hearing about this a while ago. That guy is a piece of shit. I hope he gets shanked.

+1 but only after a few of the guys use him as their play toy for a few months. Unfortunately he most likely won't be in general population.

It's just the logical path of privatization, you'll be reading about simular scandals involving Ohio in the coming years.Greed is unsatiable.

When your profit motive is to get more people in prison, you'll end up with more laws to put more people in prison. Some things are better left to the government.

Agreed. It's also why we must not let law enforcement/government seize property for certain crimes and then benefit from it.
