scottb
engraving anything is my understanding. Not worth the risk to try and figure out what the regs mean. Just go with the black and white of what they say. This is the best way to go.

dustinsn3485
I have no clue what this thread is about, but I'm at work...I am temporarily running our laser so I figured I'd put a pic up...Sent via mobile
20thGix
So, now that it's been a year and everyone has all but given up on this idea.....I'm curious to know if my personal weaponry, without shipment of anything but hand delivered, can be done with my consent? I can't see any reason as to why it couldn't since it wouldn't be altering the firearms performance in any way. What's the verdict on something like that? Secondly, can the laser do designs other that just lettering? Such as an insignia, custom pattern, or tribal design? It can do all kinds of images. The bigger it is the longer it takes. Being that this thread has been dug up and someone asked about how it would stand up over time here is a pic i just took. Its been shot, cleaned, shot, cleaned, yadda yadda yadda and i havent put paint on it in a long while. Just look past the denim lint. Its like an extra belly button! 20thGix
Now that i think of it i dont think i have showed anyone that in a long time. Hell i actually forgot i did that. Its not to often i say "Want to see something cool. Just look down the business end of my pistol."

But, I need to get off my lazy ass and play with the marker a bit. I plan on laser marking mine with a pattern and I need to see what kind of jig and fixturing need done to get that shit looking good. I'm sure if you press the button to do the marking it is all good. Our marker is slow so you may need to clear a couple hours.
Helmutt
Would I be allowed to come into the shop to have something done? Dont want to put either of you guys in a position to get in any trouble over this
20thGix
it's a little off position, but very nicely done regardlessIts was very tough to align. The machine shoots a square onto the surface for alignment. Its precise and a slight guessing game at the same time on an area that small. I could have went for smaller text but it would have been harder to read. I basically had zero room for error with the text size i went with. Anden
Would I be allowed to come into the shop to have something done? Dont want to put either of you guys in a position to get in any trouble over thisYes you could, nights are super laid back. I would highly recommend a practice piece though. let me play around tonight marking 3 sides may be quite the pain in the ass. Radiuses and different lvls may really fuck things up. Hell gimmie a call and let me know what your thinking about doing.

Anden
Played a bit tonight. Made a copy of my gun's slide. Can only mark a 3x3 area so some serious fixturing is needed. This is image shown on marker. Playing with passes and pulses. I do not like this one. First block is 7 passes I settled on 3. Reversed image for these. Trying for the wrap here, looks ok but when you see it its sticks out like a sore thumb. First block is lack of fixturing bad mismatch. Moved part and tried again. This is top and side not bad but if I paid for it I would be disapointed. What the wife wants burned into hers. Spaces before and after word stopped the J and n from getting cut off. I did learn quite a bit this time though. I will be making a fixture and playing more. The radi on top of the slide distort the image quite a bit. I am open to suggestions on a fix. As I cannot get the marker to wrap a 3/8 radius on the end of image.
