Bunch of NAA B-25 Mitchells flying in. Rides available. No details yet.

I might ride over that weekend if it's nice out.

There's also a new museum there, and the WACO museum in Troy isn't far away.

Edit: Aircraft will mostly arrive on Saturday April 14th.

Sunday the 15th, and Monday the 16th, would be better days to see more of them.

edit: more info:

Visitors can gain ramp admittance for close-up viewing of the bombers from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., April 14-16, for a $5 donation, which will help defray costs of the event, including fuel for the bombers. A variety of World War II era military vehicles also will be on display.

Flights will be available for purchase on up to six of the aircraft. Flight reservations can be made from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 14-16 in the Champaign Aviation Museum at Grimes Field. One of the participating B-25s, the Champaign Gal, is part of the permanent collection of the Champaign Aviation Museum.

$5 to ride in one I'm game

hahaha, B-25 burns 160 gallons per hour of aviation fuel.

plus a bunch of oil...

typical cost is approx $2850 per hour, but a bunch of people for a half hour isn't too bad, two or three hundred each.

5 bucks would get you about 5/6th of a gallon, and that would be good for about 18 seconds!

There will be a dawn departure of all, on the 17th from Grimes Field to fly over to the NMUSAF at Dayton.

NMUSAF story here:

22 B-25 Mitchell bombers plan to take part in tribute to Doolittle Tokyo Raiders

Twenty-two B-25 Mitchell bombers plan to come from across the nation and land on the runway behind the museum on the morning of April 17. The aircraft will then be placed on static display from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. for the public to get an up-close look at each plane and meet the pilots and crews.

On April 18 at approximately 12:15 p.m., the aircraft will take-off one by one, form-up together over the Dayton area and then fly in formation over the museum at 1 p.m. -- just prior to the Doolittle Raiders Memorial Service in the museum's Memorial Park.

Weather forecast changed. Rain on Saturday. .25 inch over 4 hours.

Sunday clearing with clouds and no rain. Temps 50F to 80F.

Monday thunderstorms possible, but saying zero rain over zero hours right now.

I'm thinking about a pre-dawn departure and blasting out of Columbus before dawn on Sunday.

That means I'll probably be at the Frisch's in Urbana between 8 and 9 eating breakfast.

Don't forget to bring kickstand pucks if on a bike and parking on the grass.

edit: oh, and watch out for deer crossing on Rt 29, early in the morning. They travel in packs across the road.
