Do Li-ion Batteries Need A Special Charger?

I'm looking at getting a li-ion battery for my track bike but I'm held up because I have heard they require a special charger. Now I can't find that info and was hoping someone on OR knows the answer.

I'm running one of these in the VFR

The last time it needed a charge I just stuck on my cheapo Harbor Freight bike charger, & worked out just fine. Generally the battery holds a charge for a long time. I like it so far.

If you want to buy a charger for them, MOTY sells those too.

The Ballistic batteries we sell do need a special charger. However, they only lose 10% of their life every year so theoretically you wouldn't even need to be thinking about a charger until 6-7 years after the purchase. Cold winter's here mean you'll need to pull your battery and bring it inside during the off season once it drops below 40deg

You CAN use a battery tender but only if it's utterly and completely totally dead 0% charge. Then you can use the tender for a max 15 minutes.
