RSparky
So, I got my uniforms at AK Steel, where I'm co-oping at this summer. It's all fire retardant, but I don't have to wear the pants if I don't want to, for my main duties. I always wear jeans. Not leather or textile or whatever, but it's my motgatt exception... They are 100% cotton, Reed FR pants. The material itself is only slightly thinner than my regular jeans. I know it won't save me from a skin graft if I go sliding across I-75, but is it better than jeans?I've been down a couple times at low speeds now, and my jeans have actually took some beatings for me. More than shorts would have done, ya know? Thanks for any input.
speedytriple
We use the same fr uniforms at my work. They are not gonna really give any more protection from abrasion. They are just a tighter weaved cotton that will not let the fire spread as quickly as normal cotton. They also are hot and don't breath very well. But if your bike were to burst into flames it would be better then jeans..
ReconRat
Depends on what it's made of.If cotton, mostly no difference from similar cotton garment. If parts are Kevlar/Aramid, improved abrasion resistance, excellent puncture resistance. If parts are Corduva Nylon, even better abrasion resistance.Leather is always better, but at a price. Resistance is gained by toughness and a lower co-efficent of friction. Which means it slides farther. Cotton should always have reinforcements at the contact and slide points. And cotton tears rather easily.
