daft_soul
Ok I really don't want to make this a wall of text, I'll try my best... refer to this thread http://www.ohioriders.net/showthread.php?t=92438There are 2 main issues that have prevented me from doing anything more than riding around the neighborhood. As well as various small electrical things...I may be able to fix those myself though.1. Sometimes if I take the rpms up past 4,000 either full or part throttle the bike will bog down and die. Other times it will bog and then "catch" and then its like oh shit hold on tight! Also...I'll do my best to describe this...sometimes the rpms will ramp up unnecessarily between gears. An example would be on a slow shift between 1st and 2nd. 1st gear...pull in the clutch and rpms fly up to 4,000 (thats an estimate) and stay there. Shift into 2nd and let out the clutch and the rpms settle back to where they should be once in gear.2. Simply put...the charging system is not charging the battery. I got some help with this on another forum and I bought a new regulator/rect and a replacement harness (factory harness was melted) from OMP. Those parts took about a month from the time I ordered them to the time I got them at my doorstep. Hopefully those parts will fix the problem once installed. The other small stuff is like the factory headlight switch not working...its wired to a makeshift automotive switch currently and the constant on brakelight doesn't work. Small stuff I think...I just haven't been motivated to fix anything with the other problems going on.I went to joes and they said my bike was to old and its a HONDA . Someone help...I wanna ride my bike outside of my neighborhood before the summer is over
NinjaNick
Vista Kawasaki? They do all bikes.Honda in Troy?I had an issue in my rpm range before on a 636 I had. Put new plugs in myself and fixed it.Maybe new clutch job needed? Just guessing here. I always take things off to check for wear is how I diagnose my shit. dustinsn3485
The first sounds like your throttle tube is sticking. It should have a crisp snap closed when twisted. If its not moving freely or hanging up that's an easy fix.Sent from my ADR6300 using Tapatalk

dustinsn3485
I do miss working on bikes. You need to come down here where the roads are actually worth going for rides on.I will be coming back up there sometime soon, not sure when yet though. I probably won't bring the bike though so if we ride, I'll need to borrow someones bike.

daft_soul
I was going to take the bike to dayton performance cycles today but didn't end up having the time. Still looking for any help around the area though. I'm not trying to have go anywhere far with a bike thats running purely off the battery power.Alex, I contacted your friend via facebook but he has yet to reply. With all the rain we are supposed to be getting this week I doubt I'll make very much progress with it this week. I'll update though if anything happens. YSR_Racer_99
#1 sounds like carb issues. Have you taken them off and cleaned 'em/ checked them out? A bike that old may have sat for awhile, or have sticking parts, clogged jets, dried/ rotted seals or gaskets, etc. Don't ride with a sticking throttle. Does it idle fine? Is there a lag when you twist the throttle? Does it rev and drop okay when its not under a load, but under load doesn't want to move?Electrical gremlins suck, but you've got a good start. Since you have a new harness, jump on ebay and grab a new/ used light switch. The brake lights should be easy. Check the bulb first, then check for voltage at the bulb socket when you pull the brake lever or press the rear brake lever. Small switch on your front lever perch to activate the brake light from there, and check the spring assembly/ housing at the rear brake pedal for that switch. How old is your battery? May be pooched.
