Amazon Accounts/Authorized devices

Anyone else use amazon to purchase digital media? Like kindle books, mp3's and digital movies?

I guess they have implemented a new policy that only one device can be authorized by one account. So basically anything my girlfriend has purchased with her account can't be downloaded on our laptop, because my account is authorized on our laptop.

Is this a new form of digital media douchebaggery? :confused:Are other places implementing the same thing? I'm just wondering.

I have 3 devices that I just made sure were updated and my account works fine on all 3; even downloading copies of books at the same time works. There is only a single account registered to each of my devices, so that may be your issue?

My problem is one device with multiple accounts. Basically only one account per device. I want to download to my laptop so I authorized the device under my account. Now she can't download to the laptop because the device is authorized under my account.

You can deactivate the the device and add it to another user, but can't switch it back for 180 days.

I haven't tried it as I'm the only Amazon guy in the house, the rest are iTunes people, but you can add family members to share stuff with. I know it works with books, you just have to add them somewhere under your account.

I haven't looked into that much, as it's easy to share between my Amazon/Android devices.

Are these titles that you have purchased or are being loaned?

I'm specifically talking about mp3's. Everything loads to the cloud player now, which I don't use. I download it, and load it to my device. Now they force you to download it from the cloud player from an authorized device from one account.

Here is the response from the inquiry I made to amazon...

The new device registration restrictions are required by music rights holders as part of the new features we have added to Cloud Player

Cloud Player allows devices to be authorized to only one account at a time. Only one account can be registered to a device at a time.

A device can be transferred from one account to another account once every 180 days. This means that if you allow someone else to register one of your devices, you won’t be able to re-register it again for 180 days (6 months).

Looks like I will add another card under my account for her now. Thanks Brian, I hadn't thought of that.

I'm pretty sure I know why these new policies were implemented:

http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2012/08/amazon-changes-policy-wont-add-new-credit-cards-to-accounts-over-the-phone/

They may not appear related specifically, but methinks the two-step verification theme is going to trend throughout the industry and will involve pairing hardware devices to accounts.

Checking into what my account backup email addresses are...

yup. iCloud hacking. That link, that guy was totally trashed. Big news really. It could have been much worse. Other changes are also taking place to prevent how easy it can be to attack Apple/Amazon accounts. It was really the combination of the two that made it easy. Oops...
