I'd be totally okay with this if for every dollar they raised taxes they also cut a dollar of spending. But alas, that's not the case. Oh, and we have the debt ceiling fiasco coming up again because our debt is STILL GROWING and our politicians seem incapable of making hard decisions. /rant

smashweights
I dont understand why the government takes marital status into account when doing taxes. "Wealthy" is $400,000 or $450,000 if married? It's ok if one of you has a $400,000 job so long as the other doesn't make more than $50,000 or just dont get married? C-bus
The $450k doesn't affect me...... Yet. It's the ss increase that affects us all. smashweights
The $450k doesn't affect me...... Yet. It's the DA increase that affects us all.Oh I know, will never affect myself or wife either. But I don't understand why it's ok to make $400k each if you're not married, but you get penalized if you marry each other.

I agree though, taxes should not depend on your marriage status.

OK, seriously, I'm pretty pissed off now. I have to pay an extra ~$300 a year in taxes... I'm a student who basically breaks even every month. Looks like I'll need to get rid of my gym membership to make up for it. And then congress gets enough of a raise to basically negate the increase in taxes. ReconRat
The social security tax is going up too. Everyone forgot about that part.It comes directly out of each pay check, and goes directly to the feds. That's going to be a very large increase. Larger than the federal tax increase.I only read the amounts in one news article. I hope they are wrong about that.edit: I read a little over $500 more for 40k-50k income, and a little over $800 for over 50k. Annual. On up to huge amount for millionaires.edit: here's the nbc list. It's still confusing, but I think it's mostly the social security tax increase. The article says there's also a 2% payroll decrease from a temporary law that was in effect for two years to stimulate the economy. It's gone.http://www.nbcnews.com/business/economywatch/taxes-are-rising-it-could-have-been-more-painful-1C7800803 Edited January 2, 2013 by ReconRat

cg2112
It wasn't voted on by congress; Dear Leader used another one of his famous Executive Orders. effin' p.o.s.It was an Executive Order because wages were previously frozen by Executive Order. It wasn't just for Congress, it was for all federal workers, who haven't seen a raise in more than two years.President Obama doesn't make frequent use of the Executive Order, it's odd to call them "famous." Rod38um
I got my first check of 2013. I get paid bi-weekly. My SSI withholding was $79 more than it was the last paycheck. My insurance cost is also up by almost $20 per paycheck. That equals about $200 per month that Mr. obama has cost me. democrats SUCK!!!
