So I posted this as a DIY on the civic forum and I'm bored now so i'm posting it here to. What are your opinions on it? So I recently got my Garmin Nuvi 650 from Costco ($299 FYI!). The suction cup mount sucks, a lot, and not in a good way. It seems that the damn thing falls off after an hr of driving. So the next natural thing was for me to look for alternative mounts on ebay. I decided to go with the cigarette lighter mount. The seller is Trueion (trueion.com). The best way to look for this thing on ebay is 'Powered Garmin GPS Mount'. I got it for ~$20 after shipping. Well After getting it I realized it was complete junk, I wouldn't trust my GPS on it! I decided not to return it since the shipping was half the price of the item, by the time I shipped it back I would only get like $6 back out of $20. So I decided to take matters into my own hands and make my own mount.:cheerleader: First I went ahead and removed the center console that surrounds the shifter, this includes the plastic pocket/cubby hole infront of the shifter. Then I looked through my brackets and happened to have one in my bin of parts. You can get this at any hardware store, I actually think I got this one at Walmart. Below is a picture of the cigarette lighter mount that sucks. I took it apart at the elbow, this was pretty easy because its held up with wing nuts. http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c192/BertoBizkit/GPS%20Mount/DSC00010600x450.jpg The next step for me was to bolt everything together as I envisioned it and make sure it wasn't going to interfere with the cigarette lighter or the lip on the console bin. The two next pictures show me putting it into place http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c192/BertoBizkit/GPS%20Mount/DSC00014.jpg http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c192/BertoBizkit/GPS%20Mount/DSC00015.jpg Next you are going to want to get your drill out and mark up the holes using the bracket you bought and choose the right bit depending on the size of the screws you decided to buy. I bought some low profile head screws because I was unsure how the interface we are drilling into interacts with the rest of the dash. http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c192/BertoBizkit/GPS%20Mount/DSC00016.jpg Then mount up your contraption! I used washers and wing nuts. The reason I chose to use wing nuts was because they are easy to adjust and remove if needed. I can take out this mount in less than 5 minutes with no tools. Also the wing nuts are hidden under the bin lip. http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c192/BertoBizkit/GPS%20Mount/DSC00017.jpg The cigarette lighter section has little teeth at the elbow (tried to show them in the picture). Since I like to over engineer things I cut a peice of Dynamat and put it on the metal L-bracket to give the teeth something to sink into and keep the elbow in the bracket from wiggling lose with use. It was holding fine without the Dynamat though. http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c192/BertoBizkit/GPS%20Mount/DSC00018.jpg http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c192/BertoBizkit/GPS%20Mount/DSC00019.jpg The following are progressive pictures of how everything was completed and is put together! http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c192/BertoBizkit/GPS%20Mount/DSC00020.jpg http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c192/BertoBizkit/GPS%20Mount/DSC00023.jpg http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c192/BertoBizkit/GPS%20Mount/DSC00026.jpg Give me some Rep points I don't have any yet!2 points

I might do that today, I have that spare socket, thanks for the input! I don't mind the GPS down low like that. its not like I am constantly looking down at it!1 point

I don't mind them down low, and being on the pillar or windshield is just plain tacky. One thing I would do different is wire up a socket behind the dash and wire in the power plug to that, so it hides those wires.1 point

exact;y mines pretty damn dead on.. and gives notice well before a turn comes up1 point

ok so that is reason 1 why you're a fucking idiot. reason two: i believe that the earth is the shape of a hand with an extended middle finger. there's a website called http://www.ibelievetheearthismiddlefingershaped.com that proves all my theories, and i also made this sweet mspaint to go along with it that shows the relative location of israel and antartctica: http://img2.putfile.com/thumb/3/8616295470.jpg so my argument totally is valid, right? reason 3 you're an idiot: trigonometry. It is accepted that the curvature of the earth drops at about 8 inches per mile, assuming the earth is a perfect sphere. lake michigan is 517ft above sea level, holland MI is 662 ft above sea level, and milwaukee is 612 ft above sea level. if indeed it is 80 miles, that means that between holland and milwaukee there is a height discrepancy of (8 inches x 80 miles = 640 inches, which is...) 53 feet, 4 inches. Unfortunately for your idiotic idea, (612-517) + (662-517) = 95 + 145 = 250 feet difference between the height the two cities over sea level, meaning that 200 feet of either city should be visible over Lake Michigan. now that i've proved my side, will you shut the fuck up and die?1 point

Since this is coming up and there are always people asking what's what so here's some info: If you plan on attending more than 3-4 events of autocross it's cheaper to simply become an SCCA member. You can do this by joining at your first even which you get for free, or go online to http://www.SCCA.org and signing up there. Non-member prices have gone up so it's well worth it to become a member plus you get some coupons and discounts to places like Tirerack.com and such. Registering for an event: For some basic info go to our local site at http://www.ovr-scca.org There is a lot of good information like what to do and bring, along with the autocross schedule, pictures, and link to the registration site. To register online go to http://www.dlbracing.com and register your info on that site. You will have to put in your car info, pick a class, and register a car number for the season. To register for a specific event go to the "calendar" section, look at the date of the event and look for "OVR" and a notepad icon that says "register for event" and click on that. It will walk you through the registration for that event. You can pay online through PAYPAL or use a credit card, or "mail in check" option to pay for the event. Now just show up to the event with a mechanically sound car and yourself and your ready to go. There are several SCCA members like myself on here that are usually more than willing to help so ask any questions you need to. Ben0 points

i personally dont believe its a sphere or an oval nor do i believe that its flat like a disc. its definately an interesting topic that explains a lot of other things if you believe it. first the flat earth side: an article on a flat earth flat earth society forum very good arguements and examples here my theory in progress i personally think its a sort of upside down ice cream cone/ egg shape; here are some very crude 1am paint drawings- first the most common side: http://aycu30.webshots.com/image/46869/2001989089542278712_rs.jpg next from the top: http://aycu34.webshots.com/image/50033/2001914168326024866_rs.jpg african side: http://aycu32.webshots.com/image/48231/2001987387509738911_rs.jpg and bottom: http://aycu05.webshots.com/image/48404/2001942175354295679_rs.jpg since i believe every word of the Bible and take it literally i think that Israel, Jerusalem to be precise, is the 'center' or highest point also i think the earth sits on legs like a table and we are the table surface i guess, the purpose of the legs is to cause earthquakes and present the earth to God like a model or something, huge angels might be in control of each leg: http://aycu33.webshots.com/image/49712/2001247284611158646_rs.jpg0 points

And as a reminder..... First event - Test & Tune is April 13th at Cooper Stadium - two weeks from today! Usually this has a restricted entry to allow more track time, but I didn't see a limit listed on DLB when I checked today.0 points

I gotta agree with my boy, Ray. You guys are surely putting together some nice setups, but you're dreaming if you think you're going to be tagging 9's or 150mph traps your first time out. I've been in the realm of TT vettes far too long, and can tell you from what I've seen, it's not going to be as easy as you guys seem to think. If you break into the 10's, or trap over 140, without breaking anything, you should consider that a successful first trip to the track. Not hatin, just statin.0 points
