  1. It really is an awesome bike and those cans sound sexy as fuck. I could dump my wedding fund money on it...and then I wouldn't need a wedding fund anymore. Glws

  6. "reasonable settlement" is pretty much the idea. I hope your recovery continues. Financially, and physically. anecdotally, big name law firms can be hit or miss. I have not personally dealt with anyone from Elk & Elk, and this is less relevant when you're paying them on a contingent fee basis, but someone is paying for their TV commercials and office space. Again, I am not saying big farms aren't good attorneys, and certainly not criticizing Elk & Elk in particular. I would just encourage everyone to check with their local bar association before calling a lawyer with the most frequent TV commercial. I interact with all kinds of defense attorneys on a daily basis. Some are charging $400/hr and others are charging less than $100/hr. The best advocates are usually the ones charging in the $100 - $200 range. They're working their butts off because they DON'T have the client demand to support a $400/hr fee, and they rely on referrals to generate business. They also don't have the overhead (i.e. office space, secretary, and advertising) that require them to charge so much. Some of the best attorneys I know work out of their homes. It allows them to charge a reasonable amount, and doesn't remotely affect the quality of their work.

  7. Reviving an old thread now that we are done with the lawyers. My wife had a very rough six months of recovery. Pain, oxygen 24/hrs a day, many trips to doctors and therapy. She still has shoulder pain at times. But otherwise is finally doing fairly well. I had knee surgery last spring and I'm doing okay. We didn't know if we could ride again but it had been our greatest joy. Last spring we bought a new trike. We put less than 3000 miles on it last year, 1/3rd of our normal riding. It just wasn't all that enjoyable, too many memories of the crash, too much fear of it happening again. IDK if we will ever be able to enjoy riding like we used to. It also gets uncomfortable riding for more than an hour. We will give the trike another try this year but if we can't enjoy it better, we will sell the trike. Insurance companies: Her insurance company's (Safeco) adjuster was a real piece of work. Denial, wrong information, stalling, etc. Lies. When they finally made an offer for the trike, it was $15,000 less that what we paid for it 2 years earlier. I had documentation of comparable replacement costs but they just ignored that. I finally turned it over to my insurance company (State Farm) who paid off under the "uninsured/underinsured" coverage. They did a more honest evaluation, paying attention to the details and cut a check for $8000 more than the Safeco offer. Turns out, Safeco/Liberty Mutual/Ohio Casualty is all the same company. We had our $3000/year farm policy with Ohio Casualty. I cancelled it and found a new company and a new agent. Lawyers: We went with Elk & Elk, a large firm. Our lawyer was Craig McLaughlin. He seemed to be knowledgeable and we feel he got us a reasonable settlement. Communication was via phone and email. Ken

  14. Well, here's the one I made. I need to cut a new top that fits better to keep the insulation in. I ended up using perlite which has good insulation properties and is light weight. Hopefully I can try it out soon and see how well it works.

  15. If you install a radon system you will see your dehumidifier start running less and less. The systems remove moisture from the air(up to 2 gallons a day). When you seal up the crawlspace (install a vapor barrier and seal it to the walls) you limit the moisture content entering your basement. Hope this helps.
