02 cbr 954 I have had some trouble with my stator burning up, twice now, i was thinking maybe it was the flywheels fault, what is the inside of the flywheel supposed to be like? Mine is indented all the way around and matches the fingers on the stator, it seems like the indents are factory, not from being worn out but i dont know for sure, Anyone know if its supposed to be flat and smooth or indented? battery is a good possibility, i had mine tested at auto zone and they said it was still good, i dont know how much i trust that test though, i might go ahead and drop a new battery in it before i start replacing other crap.

hey man, i am having the same problem, so far the possible causes i have found include a bad stator, bad r/r, bad ECU, bad battery, short somewhere in the main harness. I believe mine is stemming from a short in the harness. Check for battery leakage, if it is out of spec then that suggests that there is a short somewhere.

I am going to try that also, The R/R i have now is OEM, im getting a refund on the stator, they said it may have been a faulty stator. Im going to pick up an oem stator and try that out. I have some tests i want to run still. will keep the forum updated. Thanks

Hey guys, I could really use some help, anyone ever do electrical problems before? Ive done a lot of electrical work on bikes and im stumped, Bout to go nuts and toss the bike and tell insurance that it was stolen. if someone around here has some experience could check it out and at least give me a second opinion or just maybe see something that i over looked, i would greatly appreciate it. im for sure no expert, nor am i a god, im human just like the rest of us and every now and then i have to ask for help, let me know guys and gals, Thanks a lot! well everything is clean as hell, the tests all check out according to the book, nothing is out of line, i have not changed anything from the time i built the bike except for the tank and that was just the tank, i used the fuel pump from my old tank. everything seems to be straight. Im no professional but i have built a few cars and a few bikes, If something is way out of wack i will usually catch it. but i see nothing. ECU is my next guess........

Thanks guys, Ill check out the site right now and check all of the connections tomorrow morning. Just to make clear though, there was no corrosion on any of the plugs, i replaced the entire harness and checked all of the connections at the plugs and from the wires to the plug heads very well. they are all very clean and fit and connected well. I had a bad EDU when i bought it and went through a billion tests before breaking down and getting a new one so everything was examined very throughly. But anything is possible. ill take the whole thing out tomorrow as well, i have another harness that i will put in as well that is known to be a good working harness.

Bike died over the weekend! I posted my problem in the tech section, if anyone has had a similar experience i would greatly appreciate some help! Im pretty stumped at the moment. Heres what happened: After market R/R, stock stator, runs fine for 3 months and then i start it and in five seconds i see white smoke and the plug going from the stator to the rr is compltely fried, and the plug from the rr to the main harness is also toast. I assumed it was a bad rr. Replace the rr with a oem honda rr, the wiring harness with dogstars harness(Thanks man!) and the stator with an aftermarket stator, here is a link to it http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=150260849447&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=005 put it together and everything is fine, ride about 50 miles everything is fine, then i get on the highway and take about an 80 mile ride and everything seems ok, stop at a buddies house and then start up and leave there and ride another 20 minutes, i stop at a gas station and then go to start it again and its dead. This i imagine is about the time that all of the stator wires were burnt almost completely through. So i bump it and take off riding somewhere where i can store it for the weekend since it was acting up. Go back there to ride it home(had to bump start it) and on the way home after,about ten minutes, it dies on the highway, so i pull over, swear at it for a while, and leave it there. I finally get it home in the back of a pickup truck and take it apart and the three yellow wires from the stator are burnt completely through, not even connected to the plug end anymore. The plug is ok, the rr is ok, the other plug on the rr is ok, there is black soot on everything but i wiped it all off and that was that. i charged up the battery(already tested it at auto zone and its good) go back, pop it in, leave the rr completely disconnected and start it and its fine, connect the rr to the main harness(no stator connected) and it runs fine. I have not had a chance yet to test resistance on the stator wires or the voltage output on the wires either(it started pouring rain when i was about do get to that). I have been reading and all of the other cases that i have read so far have been as simple replace rr and stator and then good to go. Welp, done did that. Now im still looking into it, could be the rotor, some other electrical part, possibly just a crap stator, or something else that i have not even thought about so far. I want to get the question out here and see if anyone has any experience working with this kind of thing, its a first for me. Sorry for such a long story, Thanks in advance for any help!

+1 to keeping dogs out of the street, that dog was lucky it was not a pickup truck. I hit(or got hit by) a bird on the high way, bounced off my chest into my helmet and id say probably landed dead on the road, but those things dont weigh anything and it hurt, i dont want to hit anything bigger.

awesome, Im new also, been riding for about 9 months so i want to start hittin twisties but going to take it slow until i get real comfortable with the 954, im still a little intimidated by it. So for now just hanging around Columbus, maybe finding some back roads out of the city a little would be fine with me and that way your girl can get some more practice and experience too. Thanks WhoDey, bike is semi clean, really needs a good washing and some touch up paint on the right fairing though, I dropped it about a month ago and chipped up the right side a little. The pipe is a Yana Shiki, less popular pipe but i love it!

haha i could barely keep up with the posts, but they are hilarious. for real i would start on a 250 or something like that if you have no idea how to ride and its your first bike, better to be safe, My first bike was a GSXR 1000 and that was just stupid. I have not taken the course so i dont know much about it, but i hear you get an insurance break if you take the course! worth it for me...

sounds like plan wolfman, Unfortunately its supposed to rain for the next week straight, but when the weather clears ill be out. You know some good areas to ride around here? I have not been able to get out and explore much so far. Hopefully you can show me around.

Hey everyone I just wanted to introduce myself. benyen is my next door neighbor and told me about this forum. Anytime anyone wants to ride in columbus let me know, If the weathers nice and im not in class im down for riding. A Little About me: Full time student, Ride a CBR 954, RM 125, s-10 4x4, do my fair share of partying, dirt bikes, quads, jet skis, power boats, fishing, big boats, 4x4 trucks!! all good, dont care much for import cars or bling, lowered cars with shinny rims are a waste of money along with old ugly cars with 28inch rims on them, be man, get a truck and a bike. from dayton down there often, also in wooster often, Ezra Brooks is my girl, along with Busch heavy or Keyston light, im getting bored talking about myself. Hope to meet some people around here! Nick

anyone up for riding tomorrow(wednesday)? class till 130 then done for the day. Bike is finally running well and i have rode on it for a couple hours with the new equiptment and all is well so i want to get out for a good ride. I dont know any good places around columbus so im hoping someone can show me some good routes.
