I have no doubt of that guys marksmanship. Sounds like an argument to return to .45 ACP instead of 9mm.

Better than any soap opera or drama on tv

I thought that the majority (as in, NOT ALL) rivers in the world flow towards the equator?

Thorne needs to post my timeslip from norwalk last year. Unless Brian still has his copy of it, that is.

Ok, now I understand what you have been talking about. I've never heard any kind of belt being called that, hence my confusion. Makes sense though.

Your first paragraph is describing stripper clips. I agree with it completely though. I just used my Mauser as an example, since that's what I happen to have. Many military bolt actions are designed to utilize stripper clips for speed of loading, even the SKS which is a semi-auto can use them. Hell, I forgot about moon clips I've just never seen anything feeding machine guns that have ever been referred to as clips though, that's what sparked my entering into this conversation. There are different classes of machine gun though, so who knows. All that I could think of were magazine fed small arms, and larger belt fed guns.
-
Still a clip though. I do, however, fully agree with what you said about magazines. I just wanted to mention that when I think of a clip, I think of a stripper clip. Belt fed MG's usually have ammo boxes feeding them. Non-belt fed generally still use magazines.

Hey AJ, my bolt action Mauser takes stripper clips, does that mean its a machine gun?

What's the driveline on that thing? AWD, or rear?

That's my guess, but I have no proof of it.

Don't know anything about the auto's, sorry Up until late 03 - early 04 the 5 speeds were pretty weak. They were fine in the NA cars, but they used that same weak trans in the WRX for the first two years, as they didn't have anything else laying around to toss in. Their solution in the WRX was to use a crap clutch, which helped squeek some extra life out of them. Not a huge deal when the car is stock, but even then its still advised to be easy on the 1-2 shift. As for the idle, if it's not stalling I wouldn't worry about it. My idle bounces all over the place, but on the low end 750 is probably about where I sit. Mine only stalled out on me once or twice, and that was when I first got the car a year ago. If that 2.5 is just an NA version of the newer WRX/STI motor then it should be pretty good.

Even more in the news.... http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/story/0,25197,23411799-7583,00.html Man made global warming? BUSTED I have no problem seeing everyone doing things to cut down on pollution, but not when it involves bullshit scare tactics. Which reminds me, whatever happened to "save the whales"? I've noticed the hippy crowd seems to run through their fads about every decade. I wonder what's next? -
4500, for a high mileage, wrecked, hail damaged 03 that needed a clutch.

TimTaylor is absolutely correct about the credit history vs. credit score. A good credit rating is relatively easy to get if you do it right, but at your age its IMPOSSIBLE to have the history you need. Lenders see a lack of history as being more dangerous to them than bad credit, because at least with bad credit they know what to expect out of you. I understand completely how you feel about having a newer, nicer ride. I've been there, I've been over my head with an expensive truck that I loved but had to get rid of, and I'm still paying the negative equity rolled into a car I don't like (a WRX, lol). Right now I'm trying to sell everything and simply start over. Being in college, you need to realize what your priorities are. There's plenty of time later on for having fun, but for now you need cheap to drive AND maintain, and at a reasonable price. Over the last couple decades cars have become much nicer and more reliable. They are lasting longer. This means its possible to get a ~10 year old car and it still be nice looking, nice to drive and relatively easy on the wallet. I suggest making the range of cars to look at '98 - 2003. At this point, they have devalued a good bit and have started to hold steady in price, they tend to have around 100,000 on the clock which really isn't that bad, and they are still nice cars. As for price, that all depends on how much expendable money you have per month. You probably don't want a payment too much past $150 a month, and at 19 years old I don't care how good your record is, your insurance is still going to be expensive. Assume another $150 a month for a decent newer car. Now, if you do decide to go with something that caters more to the driving enthusiast, you will also need to budget for repairs. It's all part of the game, trust me on this. There's an old saying around here that has always held true: Fast, cheap and reliable, you can only pick two. Sounds like you need cheap and reliable way more than fast. Have a cosigner ready, you'll need one. No way around that other than paying in cash. Also, get something you are comfortable in and at least somewhat enjoy being in. The end goal is to have a vehicle that will last you until you are through with college and will be paid off around the time you graduate. If you end up in something that you decide you don't like, its miserable to keep driving it, and very difficult to get rid of it without incurring more debt. Also having it paid off by graduation means that you will be done with payments just in time to start paying student loans. This gives you some breathing room if you have trouble finding a job then. For reference, I've had car loans since I was 17 and still in high school. I have also owned 17 vehicles in nearly 9 years, so I've been around the block with stupid projects and cars I couldn't afford and cars I wish I never laid eyes on. If I can help you in any other way, feel free to send me a pm, seeing how I've been there before and now know what not to do.

Hopefully by then we'll have figured out terraforming, otherwise we find a new planet or die.
