I pulled an engine and tranny -
The Cherokee has NEVER had a V8. Are you thinking of the Grand Cherokee that commonly came with the Chrysler 318? Check this link out: http://www.trailerlife.com/downloads/99towingguide.pdf According to this, a 4 cyl. Cherokee can tow 2,000 pounds. An I6 can tow 5,000 with an auto tranny. A Tahoe/Yukon is rated to tow 7,000. Unloaded, the fuel milage will only be marginally worse, but probably much better while towing since it has considerably more power. It also has a better ride since it's IFS, and a larger, more comfortable SUV. I forgot to mention that you will also need a heavy duty tranny cooler if you want the tranny to live longer than 6 months at a time.

why does it look like there are holes in the hood behind the scoop?

If the trailer has trailer brakes you are alright. Auto manufacturer's rate the vehicles lower than they are capable of for liability, but it's best not to go over it. The Jeep is rated at 5,000, you are wanting to pull 4,000. Sounds fine to me. Power is not that big of an issue when towing, but suspension and brakes are. Cherokee's are unibody, with coil springs in the front and *I THINK* coils in the rear. If it has rear coils, get a good set of air shocks, and just pump them all the way up while towing. I don't know of any other options with coils. If it has rear leaves, go with a helper spring like Vince suggested above. If it is still squatting much, look into an air ride/air bag system. I think you can find them in a jegs catalog. What it does is mounts an air bag between the leaf spring and frame on each side. You can then just mount a nozzle to fill it up with a compressor at a gas station, or you can buy an onboard compressor to fill it. Next is the braking system. From my experiance, and as you mentioned above, cherokee brakes aren't the best. Find a trailer brake system to mount onto the trailer, and wire it up into the Jeep. The system senses braking, and applies however much pressure you set it to. I've pulled a trailer that, with it set all the way up, will lock up the brakes completely with a full load. Trailer brakes can stop you better than the brakes on your truck will. That about covers it. I personally wouldn't want to tow much more than a jetski with a cherokee, but that's personal preference. It's capable of doing what you want. However, keep in mind that the Cherokee is rather short. This means that you will get sway while on the highway. If you go to fast, there's a chance of losing control, especially if there is wind or you make a fast lane change. You will need to be careful. The upside to the length is that it will be very manuverable for parking and backing. If you go with a fullsize truck or SUV, you won't have to worry about the suspension, they are already designed for that kind of weight. They are also far more stable on the highway. I pulled a 2,000 pound trailer with a Contour on it the other day with a Chevy 1 ton dually, and I didn't even know anything was back there the entire time I pulled it. The truck was massive, but it was the easiest tow I have ever done.

Has to be on *your* property for I think 6 months, and you have to be able to prove it, otherwise if you try and move it it's theft. There's a lot more to it than that, but since the car is not on your property, you can't go that route anyway. You should be able to go to the DMV with the license plate number or VIN and track down the last known owner, and see if they want to sell it. That's the only *legal* way to get the car. I'm sure you could come up with something else on your own, but I highly recommend against it.

Check out a Jetta TDI. That would be your most economical choice since you are having a kid soon. 50 miles per gallon, cheap insurance, and being a diesel, it hardly ever has engine problems. Volvo would be something else to look at, I think they have some AWD cars.

jeg's catalog? exhaust cam intake blah blah blah, whatever you would get for a 350, just with two less cylinders Those motors like turbos. At least the Vortech motors are fuel injected.

More so than car wrecks? Or are they not considered preventable?

Marriage is, and always has been, a religious institution brought about by the church. It just so happens that the Fed thought it would be fun to tax it, which causes a lot of confusion in this country. Being a religious institution, it is also defined by how the church feels it should be. Being a private organization, they can include and exclude whoever they want. The government encourages this because of family stability, procreation, and taxes. Offering the gay community a legally binding civil union gives a gay couple the same legal rights and status as a heterosexual married couple, but doesn't involve the church. I can't figure out why gay rights activists are going up against the government, when in reality its the church they need to convince to change. Note - before you start accusing me of being slanted on this issue, I have been as careful as possible to not have an arguement as to whether or not homosexuality is right or wrong, I just wanted to show that the way they are going about the fight is wrong.

Thank you Joel. Applebee's corporation decided a year ago that they didn't want smoking in any of their resteraunts. That was *their* decision to do so. They lost alcohol sales, but that was fine with them since they were trying to create a more family oriented atmosphere. I support that they made their own decision about it, and don't go there very often for it. This ban takes away the business owners ability to choose. If things continue in this direction, how long until prohibition comes back? I know it's a long stretch, but what will prevent it? Smoking may damage a person's lungs, but drinking destroy's a person's liver, and causes more traffic wrecks than anything else. So what's the real problem here, nonsmokers being a little annoyed by being around smoke, or massive amounts of people dieing from drunk drivers? I bet almost everyone on here knows someone that was killed or injured by a drunk driver. How many know someone that died of secondhand smoke?

Everyone has something bad to say about their carrier. None of the companies that provide wireless phone service are anywhere near perfect.

New cell phones have GPS built in specifically for 911. It takes a few minutes for them to find your location, but they can do it. I wouldn't worry about it.
