  1. Someone had asked Mark about alternative fuels monday at applebees. Well, here is an article on converting a carbureted engine to propane
  2. which engine is in your car? If i remember right, your car is RWD, and i believe i've heard that some of those cars had the 22R engine in them. If that's the case, no worries. My old 4wheel drive toyota truck was a submarine , and it had a 22R in it. After going through deep water (around 3-4 feet deep, over the hood), it was running rough, so i let it sit and idle for a while. It ran rough for the next day or so, but after that it worked it's way out. Oh, and i will promise you that my truck had water in both the intake and the exhaust, as it stalled while underwater one time (i hit it too hard in too high a gear). Toyota makes some bulletproof, and waterproof engines, you won't hydrolock it that easily. I had my Tacoma in about 1 foot of water during a flood, and the check engine light came on as it started running rough. Ran like shit the rest of the night, like it was missing on a cylinder. Next day it was running fine, so i reset the computer and the check engine light disapeared, hasn't come back. That was about a year ago. Either way, give it some time, it'll dry once it warms up. Or, you can take off the distributor cap and dry it out, but i wouldn't worry too much about the plugs unless the problem is still there in a few days. Some people may get bent out of shape over my suggestion, but i speak from experiance on this one.
  3. don't remember the name of the place, but there is a gas station on 11th between high and jegs (be on the right on the one way section) that has CAM-2. Your roommates probably know more about it than i do, i've never ran it
  4. i'd assume so, but i cant afford it. I'm going to OSU, and i need a job. Right now, i'm still struggling to just get my truck paid off, but i can always think about what i want to do in the future
  5. just the motor, or the whole car? There's a 4.0 V8 on ebay right now for $500, with no bids. Then, find a manual tranny to hook up to it (mine is barely living through my 4 cylinder abuse), then do the turbo work. Up the fuel some, and the engine will be ready to rock. BTW, these are all future plans. I have *NO* money right now.
  6. thanks for the help, Mark. Now, you have any idea how i can finance this project?
  7. umm, spark plugs should be about $10, and a battery about $50 thats stuff that will take you all of 5 minutes to replace.
  8. http://www.clublexus.com/forums/showthread.php?s=210a91eccca51e98eea2ea283ea8080b&threadid=74460 Mark, you may or may not be interested in this. BTW, you know what engines the Getrag 6 speed will bolt up to without having to get a different bellhousing?
  9. ok, i found some lexus message boards, and i found out the LS400 has a 4.0V8 in it, but i'm still looking to find any real specs on the engines, or if there is anything that can be done with them. There appears to be a supercharger, but it has to be imported from japan
  10. anyone know anything about them? Mark? My google searches arent bringing back much info...
  11. good to hear, let us know how they do btw, the drop kit i'm planning on getting is from DJM. Everyone with a Tacoma that has gotten it says it's a great kit.
  12. shorter shocks. IF there are any suspension shops in town that does lowered vehicles (only place i know of that does suspension is 4wheelparts, and they do lifts), go down there or call and tell them exactly how you lowered it, and they should be able to hook you up. I would suggest going with Toxic Shocks. If you can't find anything local, go to http://www.godfathercustoms.com/ and give them a call about it. good luck oh, and what was wrong with the belltech kit? why didnt you like it?
  13. I thought this was a rather informative post, so I put it as a sticky. [ 06. October 2003, 09:39 AM: Message edited by: copperhead ]
  14. i believe you are thinking about custom tacos. I used to frequent that website, but very few of the people there have any real technical knowledge, they usually just go around asking the same stupid questions over and over. I basically gave up on them when I found this site. One thing that I did notice on that site is a few people were complaining that the tacoma 5 speed tranny wasn't built nearly as well as the older toyota trannies were, and that some of the people were actually replacing them already. When I bought my tacoma, it had 50,000 miles on it, and already had a little bit of trouble going into 3rd gear. So, I would rather put some work into it now, at 77,000 miles, than replace the whole thing in a few years.
  15. This summer, I'm hopefully going to be dropping the tranny out of my truck (see sig). It will be getting a new clutch, most likely a Centerforce Gold, short throw shifter, either from E.L. Prototypes or from L.C. Engineering, I haven't looked into the differences yet. I don't know what to do about the flywheel, should I try to get it resurfaced, or should i look into a performance flywheel? I don't want a lightweight flywheel, from what i've heard, road driving around ohio would be horrible. Now, as for the internals... I'm going to replace the synchros, dropping into gear just doesnt feel right. Is a synchro a synchro, or is it possible to get "performance" synchros? And either way, are they expensive? Also, can I get stronger gears, or should I be fine with what is in there? I'm hoping that this tranny with withstand a couple hundred horse, as i'm planning on doing some wicked mods to this truck once i'm done with school. any other suggestions are always welcome thanks
  16. oh yeah, and no matter where you get replacement shocks from, be SURE to tell them how much drop you have and how you did it (spindles or coils front, leafs or blocks rear). Otherwise, you probably wont get the correct shock.
  17. you could get away with it, but i would replace the ones on the back in the near future. The fronts ones *probably* won't be too bad. The ride won't be too great until you get lowering shocks on all the way around though. You should be able to get Toxic Shocks from Godfather for, i believe, $30 a pop. Thats what they were when i priced them for my toyota way back when. Basically, you can get away with factory shocks on a relatively small drop like that, but ride quality *will* suffer. If you don't mind the ride, don't replace them, if it bothers you, go with the toxic shocks. And if you can find them somewhere cheaper, more power to you. Godfather is a very well known company, but I personally have never ordered from them, as I have yet to start any of my projects.
  18. U GOT A PM AOL TRANSLA2R OWNS U!!111!1!11!!!!!!111 WTF LOL check PM's please
  19. back home in Marietta, there's always a black crown vic sitting in front of the courthouse with no markings, but it has a shitload of attenas, a spotlight, and state of ohio police license plates. I've never seen that care used for traffic stops, and it rarely leaves it's parking spot in front of the courthouse I think it's mainly used for transportation for the higher-ups in the sheriff's department down there. There was this one time....I was in the parking lot behind one of the buildings at marietta college, where i was working at the time, and me and a friend were waiting on our supervisor to get there. My friend has his ATV in the back, and he thought it was blown up. So, we pulled it out, and started it up to find out it was running fine. He took a few laps around the parking lot, pulled it up behind his truck, and we were about to load it back up when a BLUE crown vic came flying at us with strobes behind the windshield (no markings). A guy in plainclothes with a cast on his arm jumped out and started yelling at us (this was about 8 a.m. on a weekday) saying that we werent allowed on college property. We had to tell him 3 times that we worked there before it registered in his mind. He was trying to threaten to arrest us, and we kept telling him to stick around for our supervisor to get there and straighten everything out. He eventually got pissed and left. To this day, I don't know who that guy was.
