REEVU MSX-1 Worlds first Rear-view helmet is here.
ReconRat replied to jagr's topic in Pics and Vids
Price direct from manufacturer (probably full retail) is 790CHF (Swiss Francs). That's 648 USD (US Dollars). Shipping for a helmet from Britain is $40-$50 bucks. I would expect something similar from Switzerland. http://www.reevu.ch/ -
A google shopping search shows air-brushed helmets range from $150 to $500. That appears to included the helmet. Custom work on your own helmet should run about the same? I would think. On the high end; Pamela Shanteau in Swanton, Ohio. Might be one of the best in the USA. Figure on $1000 to $1500. http://www.pamelashanteau.com/Custom_Airbrushing_World_main.htm

Two of these critters have been found. The species was thought to be dead and gone at least 95 million years ago.

I noticed in Germany that those BMW motorcycles don't stop for snow (or anything). I never did figure out how they could cruise on the freeway in the snow.

I've done it to see what would happen. Small bike that wouldn't get damaged. Fell down a lot, or tried to. It was a hoot.

I've been happy with screens from this outfit. They do replica screens, and modified screens. The ones I bought looked identical to stock Honda. But you have to drill your own mounting holes. Lots of trick colors for the transparent plastic screens. http://bikescreen.com/

600rr.net thread on this outfit: http://www.600rr.net/vb/showthread.php?t=44025 Edit - just flipping through a google search, it looks like at least half of people were unhappy with the fit/paint/shape of the screen/fairing/undertail/etc. The word Thief or cheap comes up frequently in the search... I did not see anything specific to the ZX-10

Worse, when and if things get better, the high prices will resist coming back down. Like now, with gas prices lower, nobody is rushing to quick lower prices on anything that had been claimed to be higher because of the gas prices. Plus the state and federal taxes aren't collecting as much money, with no one buying or working. So, of course, the plan is to increase taxes to keep getting the flow of money. News says what, 533,000 laid off in the USA in November, just November?

Oh wait, I forgot the refineries take turns pumping batches through the pipelines. It gets checked out and stored in separate tanks at the storage facility. But most of it is just mixed all together. Additives and blends are done in the tanker truck when it picks up and delivers. http://www.eia.doe.gov/bookshelf/brochures/gasoline/index.html

crap, glad I stopped using speedway long ago. But thinking about it, doesn't all road fuel come through pipelines to storage facilities like the one on the West side of Columbus? and then doesn't it get picked up by whatever tanker truck and taken to the retail station? Doesn't that mean, all the fuel is possibly the same stuff? I R still confused...

Progressive style springs, what why do they go in?
ReconRat replied to fireman_343's topic in Tech and Tips
Progressive Springs Street Fork Spring Installation Instructions http://www.progressivesuspension.com/pdfs/forkSprings/3055.pdf see step 3: Install your new fork springs into the forks. Mechanically, it makes no difference which way the springs are installed. Some manuals will state; install the spring with the close wound end towards the bottom. This is done because sometimes there will be less spring noise. The springs will perform exactly the same regardless of which direction they are placed... Calculating pre-load is in the pdf also. It says motorcycle listed on the enclosed chart? I don't see a chart. And gives detailed instructions for calculating your own pre-load. -
If Speedway sells BP fuel, how is it I see them unloading the fuel from tanker trucks that say Marathon on the side? I R confused... Granted, a Speedway can buy fuel from anybody / anywhere.

The Trashmen : Surfin' Bird ( 1963 ) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZThquH5t0ow http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surfin'_Bird This song, a single on a 45rpm disk, was famous for being THE song of the Ohio State Fair, the year that is was released and played over the radio. It was everywhere, played day and night. Federal Congress tried to investigate and ban it for... well, it sounded obscene back in those days. It came out of nowhere, with no explanation of, well, what the bird was. A mystique. Part of the fun back then was that each song of popularity developed it's own dance. And this one was raunchy for it's time, kids danced it real close to each other. Parents hated it, kids loved it. It probably accounted for dancing bans in a bunch of small towns. And that's the way I remember it. That and my 3rd cousin, the one I didn't know I had, that I took to the fair... she was a cutie... Putty was right...for once. Holiday burglaries...
ReconRat replied to PrincessPratt's topic in Dumpster
Whitepages.com will tell you everyone on the street's name. Yahoo.com people search will find a person in 20 seconds or less. Name, address, and phone number. Even if you're unlisted, which is annoying. Even some maps will show location when given a person's name and town. -
Yeah, most of what I was reading, people were milling without coolant. And correct, if it's melting or chattering, use slower feed or speed. I'm always surprised that people don't look up the correct speed and feed.

Ok, I googled some on machining 2024-T6, and I see it is common to do that. Use good carbide tools to cut with. Machining 6xxx series seems to be tricky. It kinda smudges and melts.

One of my co-workers does the blacksmith thing. He likes a couple of places. I can ask him. I remember he likes to snoop around one of the metal yards on Joyce ave for pieces. If it's the yard I'm thinking of, the old dude will mess with you on prices. It's his thing, it's what he does all day long.

Columbus Yellow Pages list for "heat treating metals": http://yp.yahoo.com/ypResults.py?stp=y&stx=25988748&city=Columbus&state=OH&zip=43215&uzip=43215&msa=1840&slt=39.9651&sln=-83.0048&cs=5&qtx=heat+treating+metals For aluminum in general (as best I can remember or look up): the -T0 temper (annealing) is had by heat soaking at 775F to 825F, and then slow cooling to 500F, at a rate of 50F per hour. A quick annealing can be done by heating to about 650F (stress relieving a bend). The -T1 is had by age hardening. The aluminum is probably -T1 when you buy it, unless it's right out of the mill. The -T2 only applies to castings that are work hardened (forgings). Flat plate and sheet is wrought aluminum. (rolled out) the -T4 temper is had by brine solution soaking in a tank for less than an hour at 875F to 950F depending on the alloy, and then quenched in cold water. Thin parts can warp or change shape during quenching. the -T6 temper is had by furnace soaking for several hours at 250F to 325F depending on alloy, and then air cooled at 70F to 90F in still air for 18 to 24 hours. There's more, but it makes my head hurt. If you find something already tempered, you can try working with it. It will be harder to cut, drill, and machine. But shouldn't be any harder than steel, heh? Just don't try bending hard tempered aluminum.

btw, two kids sat out in the creek bank behind my place, a couple of weeks ago, trying to throw rocks through a neighbor's patio window. Common theft target of kids is game machines and the games. They broke the window, and they did get caught. Some of the city and other workers in the area saw them and called it in. The kids were rather obvious, they should have been in school at that time of day. What surprised me, was the gal next door saw them, and didn't call it in. I understand that seeing something strange going on makes people hesitate, but let the cops figure it out, they like to do that.
