An IR trail/game camera should work out. Funny, I picture it mounted directly above looking straight down... Even more fun, get a wireless motion detector that sounds the alarm indoors, and point it at the trail cam...

Teflon tape isn't meant for fuel line fittings. It's more of a plumber's tool for tapered threads. Although I did use it once on a defective carb fitting to get it to stop leaking. Fuel fittings have a sealing surface inside that doesn't need anything else. To proper torque one, you would need the crow's foot extensions to use on that. A one inch offset crow's foot does not change the torque. A longer one would. Proper torque and torque pattern with fresh gaskets should work. Same with fuel line banjo bolts and fittings. Inspect all fittings that should seal on their own for damage that might cause a leak. edit: And absolutely clean surfaces for the gaskets to seal on. It is one of the harder things to do correctly on automotive and aircraft. There are tracer dyes that can be put in the fuel, and allow UV light to show the leak better. edit: Where a fitting might screw into the tank body is different, and that might use a sealant when installed. It should say so in the service manual if it does need that.

I've seen them, but can't quite remember the brand. They are expensive solid aluminum adventure touring luggage. A set of those might cost more than my motorcycle.

Another piece to the puzzle:

It's only 0.4 mile to the Delaware police station. I suspect some one might have been trying to get there.

Don't shoot at tires. Bullets can actually bounce off. Bullets will bounce off of anything if given half a chance. About an hour later, an SUV and motorcycle collided at College and Brookwood Road on Columbus East side. Not a good afternoon.

But to answer the wiring question... Run the wiring through wire looming. Various colors and sizes. Hide under other stuff or hold with mount clips. Cheapest if found somewhere like Amazon in 25, 50 or 100 foot rolls. Some people sell it really cheap.

What? There was one this week on craigslist... Let me look and see if it is there, is legitimate, etc, etc... yurp... it's Columbus. Probably why you didn't see it. edit: the ad has been there since at least Sept 4. http://columbus.craigslist.org/mcy/3298505218.html edit: and yes, I'd like to streetfighter a 600RR for fun.

I thought this thread was about JRMIII.... I've never had fuel problems worth mentioning on motorcycles. (Hondas) But I have noticed fuel tanks on mowers and yard gear giving up rather easily.

Doubts creep in. some of the news articles are back pedaling. It's too early to know yet. But Mercury doesn't follow the plan. It could have come from the asteroid belt, just as easily as from outside our solar system. Only time and data will tell. It's just not likely that it "formed" where it is now. They are pretty firm on it didn't get hit by something else, or boil away, or other theories that don't work out. At least for now.

The above is also why it's not good to stick bare skin into gasoline contact. And which stuff melts the plastic? Several, I'd think.

Old fashioned gasoline is long gone. It went away with unleaded fuel. It's now a blend of stuff that burns, and much of it is not.... gasoline. From a previous thread about E85: All gasoline can have up to 10% ethanol without notification. And other popular additives: ...including benzene (up to 5% by volume), toluene (up to 35% by volume), naphthalene (up to 1% by volume), trimethylbenzene (up to 7% by volume), Methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE) (up to 18% by volume, in some states) and about ten others. And the entire list of crap in fuel: Additives Hybrid compound blends Combustion catalyst: an organometallic compound which lowers the ignition point of fuel in the combustion chamber reducing the temperature burn from 1200 degrees to 800 degree F Catalyst additives prolongs engine life and increases fuel economy Burn rate modifier increases the fuel burn time, resulting in an increased fuel efficiency Polymerization increases fuel ignition surface area resulting in increased power from ignition Stabilizer/demulsifier/dispersant: prolongs life of fuel and prevents water contamination Corrosion inhibitor prevents corrosion of tank and fuel system Deposit control additives, acting as detergents, clean the engine [*]Oxygenates Alcohols: Methanol (MeOH) Ethanol (EtOH) Isopropyl alcohol (IPA) n-butanol (BuOH) Gasoline grade t-butanol (GTBA) [*]Ethers: Methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE) Now outlawed in many states for road use. Tertiary amyl methyl ether (TAME) Tertiary hexyl methyl ether (THEME) Ethyl tertiary butyl ether (ETBE) Tertiary amyl ethyl ether (TAEE) Diisopropyl ether (DIPE) Antioxidants, stabilizers Butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) 2,4-Dimethyl-6-tert-butylphenol 2,6-Di-tert-butylphenol (2,6-DTBP) p-Phenylenediamine Ethylene diamine Antiknock agents Tetra-ethyl lead Methylcyclopentadienyl manganese tricarbonyl (MMT) Ferrocene Iron pentacarbonyl Toluene Isooctane Triptane Lead scavengers (for leaded gasoline) Tricresyl phosphate (TCP) (also an AW additive and EP additive) 1,2-Dibromoethane 1,2-Dichloroethane Fuel dyes, most common: Solvent Red 24 Solvent Red 26 Solvent Yellow 124 Solvent Blue 35

Sorry, but math doesn't cover that. Statistics does. Which says the odds remain the same regardless. But those odds are low indeed, so not to worry.

Gosh, if just looking for most energy bang for the buck, just fill up with diesel #2. Gasoline (regular) gallon = 114,100 btu or 1.00 gallons gasoline Ethanol (E100) gallon = 76,100 btu or 0.63 gallons gasoline E10 gallon = 110,300 btu or 0.94 gallons gasoline E15 gallon = 98,050 btu or 0.86 gallons gasoline The problem, is that cost of any of the above is usually adjusted so it all costs the same for miles per dollar. Nobody is doing us any favors. It's all about stretching real gasoline to last longer into the future.
