  1. Yesterday, Mrs. Wahoo and I rode ours to the top of Pikes Peak.   Reached the summit around 8:45 a.m.  Damn it was cold.  36 with a wind chill of 26.   Currrently on the road heading home after playing around in Colorado since 7/18.

In addition to Pikes Peak and Trail Ridge Road, I think we hit 9 or 10 other mountain passes over 10,000 feet between RMNP, Breckenridge, Montrose, Durango and Colorado Spings.   550 (Million Dollar Highway) between Ouray and Silverton was a hoot.

  2. In a nutshell, ITAR bans the export of various items (including firearm lasers) outside of the USA unless you apply for, and obtain, an export license from the US State Department.  (Not an easy task).  However, if you're ordering it from a US company and it's shipped to an address in the US, there shouldn't be a problem.

  3. As you head north along the coast in New Hampshire, Rt 1A from Hampton Baech up to Rye Harbor is very scenic.   In Rye Harbor there are some lobster shacks near the fishing boat harbor.   Rye Harbor Lobster Pound is very good.

Rt 1 up along the Maine coast north of Rockland is a nice ride also.   When you are at Acadia National Park, make sure you go over to the other side (north) of the bay and go to Schoodic Point.  If the tide is in and the waves are rolling, there are rocks which act like giant blow holes.  At Acadia, take the loop road to the south side of Bass Island.  (Thunder Hole)

Looks like you'll be near Mt Washington near Gorham NH.  Check the website for the mountain before going up the auto road to see what the conditions are like at the summit.  75 and sunny at the bottom might be 37 and high winds at the top.. On a clear day you can see 100 miles.

ALso looks like you're going west over the Kanc from Conway.  Nice ride.  Watch out for cars in blind corners turning into parking lots along the river.

Ben & Jerrys is a good stop too.

We've done many of the areas on your route three or four times.   Hope to get back up there again soon.

    Enjoy the ride !

  4. I have a Garmin 590.  It wasn't cheap, but it works great and has way more features than the 765T I was using up until last year (plus it's waterproof).   You may be able to find some deals on the 590's now that the 595 is out ($400 vs $799).  Has most of the same features.

I still use Streets and Trips to plan routes, then import the .gpx files to the Garmin.   Harley's ride planner website and Honda's ride planner work too.

  5. Winter carry is a shield 9mm with 8 shot extended mags.  Put on a Pachymar grip or a hogue.  Much more comfortable to shoot and better shot control. OWB Blackhawk serpa holster.  Also fits in a desantis ankle holster, but is a little heavy for serious ankle carry.

Summer carry (or winter back-up) is LCP 380 with a hogue grip and 7 shot extended mags.  Put a 13# recoil spring in for less recoil and more shot control.   Fits nicely in a Desantis ankle holster under long pants, or in front pocket of shorts in a pocket holster (uncle mikes or Blackhawk - I have both).  Fits nicely in zippered pocket of my MC jacket when traveling. Can't tell it's there, but easy to access if needed.

As others have said, best gun for concealed carry is one you will actually carry and one you will practice with regularly.

The one down side to the .380 is the price of ammo.  It's always more expensive than 9mm, undoubtedly driven by the large number of concealed carry folks buying pocket guns.   Check on line for deals (many with free shipping if you order by the case).

Fin Feather runs deals occasionally, but Sportsman's Den in Shelby actually has better prices many times (guns and ammo).

  6. Dunhams is running a similar deal on Remington 9mm (115 gr and 124 gr).   Sale price is $9.99 per box, and there is a $5.00 rebate per box (up to 40 boxes).  My son and I each bought 40 boxes last night.  Rebate forms mailed today.   After the rebate (and including sales tax) , it works out to roughly 11 cents per round.

We did get a lot of strange looks wheeling a shopping cart around the store last night with 4,000 rounds of ammo.  :-)

  7. Tonik, if you're taking 83 south out of Millersburg, check to make sure the road construction / closure just south of 93 isn't still there.  We were on our way to the Muskie Bucket on 83 this past Tuesday and had to detour down 93 because 83 was closed.

  8. We did a 13 day, 4,000 mile, 9 state trip to Badlands and Black Hills area last week of June / first week of July this summer.  Stayed in Deadwood for 6 nights and did day trips from there.  2 couples on 2 touring bikes.

Did Needles Highway (twice), Iron Mountain Road (3x), Spearfish Canyon (twice), Nemo Road, Vanocker Canyon Road, and Custer Wildlife loop were great.  Sturgis was preparing for an AMA motocross race July 4th weekend (through the middle of town), but it was fairly quiet.

We also Clipped the corner of Montana on the way to Devils Tower.  Came back through Nebraska.  Aside from Scottsbluff, what a boring state to ride across......

  9. We've been up that way each of the past 4 summers (once in a car and three times on the m/c).  If you already know what follows, please feel free to disregard.

The ferry from Port Kent NY to Burlington VT is approximately a 1 hour boat trip.   Drops you right in the middle of Burlington downtown.  We've done it past 2 years.  Nice way to relax and cool off after riding up through the "Lakes". (Saranc Lake, Tupper lake and Lake Placid).  At the Olympic ski jumping venue you can take the ski lift to the top and ride big inner tubes down the hill.  Speeds hit 50 mph or so.  (I passed on the opportunity).

In NH, Routes 302, 112 (the Kanc), 2 and 16 are good routes.  If you get to Franconia area, check out the Franconia Notch Gorge state park.   Even if you don't get too far into Maine, take a look at Rt 1A which runs from Hampton Beach NH up the coast thru Rye Harbor to Portsmouth.   Very scenic and gives you a little taste of the coast.

Mt Washington has a web site to check conditions at the summit (temps, wind speed & visibility).

The area near Lake Winnipesaukee is nice and scenic.  Laconia and Wolfesboro are popular towns near the lake.

Depending where you cross Champlain, there are several good options to cross VT from west to east.   Rt 2 runs parallel with the interstate and after leaving Montpelier pick up 302 to 112 into Lincoln and the Kanc

Rt 4 out of Rutland will take you up over Killington Peak and through Woodstock VT.

To the south Rt 9 is a nice ride across the southern portion of the state.  Rt 7 runs north to south on the western side of the state.

We just returned from a 13 day trip to SD, WY and MT, otherwise I'd be interested to join you.  NE is always a great area to ride.

Stay safe, and enjoy the ride !

  10. They repaved 205 between Jelloway and Danville, but it's now done.  Monday, 514 between Danville and Nashville was partially freshly paved (northern portion), but the bottom portion was either ground down for pre-paving, or it's been tar and chipped.  Either way, the portion of 514 which is south of 520 (closer to Danville) was not in good shape.
