  1. Thanks to everyone for your support. It is amazing that I'm here. As far as the truck driver, I was told that he was really apologetic and worried about whether I was alright or not. It sucks that it happened, but I know that it can't be easy to see a bike from the seat of a semi so I don't hate the driver or anything.

The good news, I did want a new bike, I would have much rather just sold mine to get a different one though haha. The second piece of good news is that I've been trying to quit smoking and being in the hospital I was obviously not able to smoke so it got me past the first couple days of having no cigarettes. My mind has been too preoccupied with the pain in my leg and being messed up on morphine to even want a cigarette.

  2. glad you're ok, anything happen to the driver of the truck legally?

The driver was cited, and arraigned in court immediately from what I'm told. My attorney is dealing with all the legal stuff and I'm not really sure how it will all turn out yet.

  3. Are you in the hospital? You seem like you're typing and thinking clearly, so I'm glad to see you are ok. That sounds horrible though.

I just got out today, I was in for two nights. Two broken bones in my foot, some mild road rash on my leg and a black thumb nail. It's nothing short of a miracle that I am not more seriously injured. I'm pretty sure that God himself was standing between the semi and me when I hit it.

  4. On Tuesday morning I was in an accident on my motorcycle while on my way to work. I wasn't even a 1/4 mile from my house when it happened.

Basically a semi failed to yield after stopping at a crossroad. He came across the road into my line of travel and I T-boned him right at his front passenger side tire. There was no sliding into it, I didn't lay the bike down before hand, it was in an upright position when I hit the truck. I flipped over the bars hit the truck with my body, then bounced back onto the road.

It was probably the scariest thing that I've ever experienced because I knew that there was no avoiding it and I knew that I was about to hit the truck.

It's pretty amazing that I'm actually able to type this thread right now. I very well could have been dead. I know that my helmet helped out a lot being that there was a hole in the side of the trucks fender where my head hit it. My bike is completely totaled out and it will be quite a while before I'll be able to ride again.

It was just last week that I was reminding everyone to wear a helmet because my friend just got into an accident. I'm yet another example of living proof that if you're on two wheels you should have a helmet on your head.

  5. I prayed for him. Im sorry this happened to him. I always wear my helmet. My husband also would not have survived if he wasn't wearing one! The chin, from what i have read, is usually the first to hit the ground along with your hands and elbows.

That's exactly why his hand and face got messed up. He instinctively put his hand out to catch himself.

Also, thanks to everyone for your concern and prayers. It's greatly appreciated.

  6. A friend of mine was out riding a few nights ago and was in an accident. A car took a left turn and pulled out in front of him and he T-boned the car. He was put into the intensive care unit and is still currently there.

His hand and arm were broken in multiple places, the jaw piece on his helmet shattered and cut up his face, and he suffered a concussion and head trauma.

Things are looking pretty hopeful for him as of now, but please remember him in your prayers.

He'd be dead right now if he hadn't been wearing his helmet. I know most of you guys wear helmets, but anyone who doesn't should really re-think the decision not to the next time they go out. Be safe out there guys, no one is promised tomorrow.

  7. Can you really be pulled over for "not having your endorsement" considering there's no way to tell beforehand?

From what I understand, the information will show up when the run your plates. My buddy recently got pulled over and the first thing the cops said was "where is your helmet?" He told him that he ran his plates and saw that he hadn't had his endorsement a full year. He got off with a warning, but yes, they can tell. That's the part of the reason we have license plates.

  8. I have never and will never smoke controlled substances of any kind' date=' drink alcoholic beverages of any kind or have sex with underage girls of any kind.

That being said... "Get over here sweetie and hold my beer while I rip into this bong."

    WOOT![/quote']

    Haha good stuff.

Also, thanks for all the welcomes everyone.

  9. Well this bolt is not stripped yet. The factory uses lock-tite. I've tried over tightening to break it loose, pb's break free. I'll get it, just don't want to strip it. I actually used that "Grab-it" tool that is on t.v. on another bolt that stripped. Got it at Wallgreens for 19.99. Worked better than Craftsman's set which I bought.

I'll have to check that out. What's it called?

Lock-tite is pretty much just a bitch to work with. I don't think there's any advice out there for that. The one thing I can suggest is using a 12 point socket to reduce the risk of stripping it. Other than that, I've got nothing except for.. good luck, and screw the Kawi haters :D

  10. nice! do they have metric also??

It covers metric and standard. For example, the #3 die can be used for 11mm and 7/16. The kit I have covers most of the common sizes, but you can buy bigger kits that cover more, or smaller more specific ones. I bought mine last year sometime, so I would assume they still have them out on the shelves and there shouldn't be a problem finding them

  11. Craftsman makes an amazing stripped bolt removing tool. It's similar to how a normal socket works, but it's cut differently so that when you turn it, it cuts into the head of the bolt and grabs it. I work on cars a lot and stripped bolts is a very common occurrence. You can buy different kits that will cover various sizes of bolts, it comes with a chart so that you know which one to use for which bolt size. I think I spent about $20.00 on mine and it covers 3/8 to 3/4. It is well worth the money and have saved me time and money countless times.

  12. I suppose that means you make each and every passenger in your car wear their seatbelt?? That includes back seat passengers

Well it's easy for me to do that cause I drive a truck and just like a bike, only have one passenger with me at a time, plus most of the time I just ride with friends cause my truck is a POS. When I do have someone in my truck, yes, I do ask that they wear a seat belt.

  13. yup gmc S-15 sierra (before they named it the sonoma), mine was an '88

it cost $250, i drove the piss out of it for well over a year, manual steering, manual brakes, manual transmission, manual windows, manual starter...(eventually replaced the starter, but it cost 1/3 the total price of the truck $85 starter)

That sounds a lot like my truck, manual everything and paid $300 for it. Can't go wrong with an old beater for under $500

  14. I used to own a S-15 (it was a truck)

maybe you have an unlucky truck...

Haha :lol:I never thought about that, that's the GM version of S-10 right? Well, exactly the same truck, different tag on the tailgate I guess. My truck isn't an S-10 or an S-15 but it is kinda unlucky. I'm gonna go with S-13 is = to Ford.

  15. Welcome. Better late than never. Whats S-13 stand for?

Honestly, I have no idea. I don't remember where I picked it up from. I think I saw it somewhere once, but it's a s/n I've been using for a long time now. I might as well make something up now that you say something, or pick a s/n that actually has meaning. Sorry for the disappointment.

  16. This is a little late, being that I have been a member for about 2 weeks now, but still new none the less.

I'm from the Toledo area, (NW Ohio for anyone who doesn't know)

I have been riding for about a year now. Just got my own bike over this last winter ('85 Kaw Vulcan 700) but rode my brothers bike ('08 Kaw ZZR6) a lot last summer. I ride a cruiser because the insurance is cheaper and I will end up losing my license or killing myself on a sportbike. Maybe one day I'll get into a sportbike, not now though.

I'm looking forward to doing lots of riding this season, and hopefully will be able to go to some events and meet some other riders from the site too.

If anyone else is from or passing through the Toledo area I'm always down for some ride time as long as it's above 32 and not raining.

  17. The one thing that I absolutely HATE seeing is a passenger on the back of someone's bike without a helmet. Not wearing one as an operator is your own choice, you are in control of the bike and anyone who's ever ridden a street bike knows that cars try to hit you all the time for no good reason. It's bad enough to not wear one yourself, but allowing a passenger to go without one is just ridiculous.
