  1. My friend has a '73 honda 750 that is having problems with the transmission. The first time I took it out it was having a really hard time going from 2nd gear back to 1st. It was like it hit a wall and you would have to slam the shifter down to get it back to first/neutral. Then it wouldn't stay in 2nd gear from first, you would have to hold the shifter up with your toe to make it stay in 2nd or it would fall back out of gear into neutral. I was told by a friend that it is a common problem with older 750's that the shift forks go bad. I don't know much about transmission, but that sounds like it could be accurate. Anyone have any thoughts or advice on it?

  2. I havn't had good luck with plates at all. I lost my 30 day tag for the bike after my 3rd ride so I just rode with no plates for the rest of the 27 days (very surprisingly without getting stopped) I somehow had the sticker for my trailer on my truck plates one time and almost got arrested because of it. My front plate on my truck got completely mangled one time and I have no idea how it happened. I think I'm just going to make a completely sealed plexi glass container for my plate and then put in on a small trialer behind my bike so nothing can happen to it haha.

  3. If you want to have a debate, fine. But that isn't the way to open the door. You have no idea how I use my bike. Look at my tires, they are sport touring tires jack ass. I ride my ride. I also said I do not write a lot of speed tickets, not because I am a hypocrite, just because I don't. You do not know who I am so again figure me out and don't judge cops if you don't want cops to judge you.

+ 1 My brother got stopped by a cop who rides a gsxr1000 and he just told him that he needs to be more careful and gave him a warning. Just because a cop rides a bike and also issues tickets to bikes doesn't make them a hypocrite. If anything, they are probably more understanding and know the laws better.

  4. I have another story where a cop (for reasons that I can not explain) gave me a warning. I'm going to make this long story short. I was traveling waaaay way too fast down the highway at night with only my temporary permit at the time. That's three different violations. I turned off of my exit and was cruising along when a motorcycle flew past the van behind me. I didn't know it was a cop 'til he was next to me yelling at me to pull over. After he ran the plates/id/etc. he got back on his bike, put his helmet on and just said "I bet you didn't expect a cop on a motorcycle did you?" then pulled away. I just stood there in amazement that he didn't ticket me and impound the bike. Keep in mind I was on the highway, at night, speeding, with only temps.

  5. if there is no quota why do you see more people pulled over and more city cops sitting on the highways, along with troppers towards the end of the month..and thats every month..

There is actually a law in Ohio against ticket quotas. I would search for it but I'm lazy. There was a cop talking about it, basically what he said is: There are no longer quotas, however cops do get a big pat on the back if they bring in the most tickets, and are recognized if they get the most during the month.

So although there aren't actual "quotas" cops do get rewarded for giving more tickets.

  6. Wow, you're a fucking idiot. At least you acknowledge it

If you're so inattentative that you didn't see the state trooper before you rode a wheelie by him, how can you argue that you'll see that stop sign/child/car/pedestrian? You really don't think you deserved a ticket for that?

  7. my worst year was about 4 years ago when i got 4 tickets in about 8 months. each of the tickets were 82 in a 50, 77 in a 55, 87 in a 65, and a 53 in a 35. :) no i don't learn

Wow, and I thought that I had a bad driving record. My record is the reason I bought a cruiser instead of a sportbike. I got two tickets on my brothers bike last summer and wasn't looking to get more.

  8. it seems that many Ohio LEOs get that wrong... I've had one try to pull that on me a while ago, and I proved him wrong with the booklet in my trunk :D

That would have been nice to have at the time. There's a lot more to the story that I told too, but it's really long and I didn't feel like typing it out. There was probably about 5 other cops there and neither one of them said anything when I told them it wasn't a law. I even asked the other ones and they all just shrugged.

  9. I am in no way one of those people who hates cops and thinks that they are always out to get me, but sometimes some ridiculous stuff happens. Last summer I was on my brothers bike, got pulled over on the highway by a state trooper. He told me that I was not allowed to ride on the highway because I didn't have my endorsement for a full year. I told him the only restriction was that I had to wear a helmet for the first year. We argued about this for a bit, and long story short, he impounded the bike because I was on the highway. I was pretty upset that I had to pay to get it back when it had been impounded for a non-existent law. I have gotten some pretty amazing warnings though for stuff that I shouldn't have gotten away with so I guess it evens out.

That's my story. Anyone else ever have a ridiculous and/or funny run in with the cops before?

  10. Thanks to all for the replies. I was unsure about it so I figured I'd post a thread. My uneasy suspicions have been reinforced and I won't be buying a reman. Especially for my brother's bike, I'd feel pretty bad if something happened to him cause I bought a crap tire. Any suggestions on a half way decent cheap tire?
