RX-8s take FOREVER to wind up. While I'm not surprised he got to those speeds and held it there (they are fantastic cars on the edge), I also wouldn't be surprised if 4 miles down the road the trooper caught up. Nobody makes an 800cc supersport road bike. They're all 1000cc. So you get to start with the inital factory design and then improve upon it for MotoGP racing. This head start on engine design helps immensely compared to starting from scratch with an 800cc block and using all one off parts.

I went for the MotoGP look once. It felt like I was riding a Harley with all of the power that I lost, and my right ear just about started bleeding inside my helmet after a 5 min jaunt down the highway. Never again. Does sound cool at idle though. Sounds cammed.
