Still trying to devise a way to tell my mom I wont be making it to Easter without getting shanked.

Let me know how your plan works out. Needing to devise a similar plan, might as well learn from your mistakes!

Not that anyone really cares if I'm at easter, it's more of the "OMG you're going to miss your daughter's first easter?!?!?!" reaction that I'm looking to avoid...

I thought Brandon was fighting an overheating issue... electrical?

Eh, both sort of. The overheating seemed a little better, then an electrical issue popped up. It was the out lap, with like 25 bikes following me into turn 1 at NC bike and it decided to stall out. I put my hand up and rode off into the grass, and once the rpm's got below 4k, it bump-started itself. Now it runs, but acts like it's hitting the rev limiter at 4k. Diagnostics say everything is ok, I'm suspecting a crank position sensor because I've had problems with it in the past. The one on it now is an aftermarket one that I don't trust.

  3. I don't think I can miss this for anything!

Looking for crap in my house/garage/sheds to sell so I can afford track days, formula and diapers next year. In that order. Kid might have to get a few old t-shirts wrapped around her ass as make shift diapers if money gets tight. Priorities!

    Great idea for a thread.

I am struggling to get things together for barber. The bike has been ready for weeks but the truck started to leak coolant from the area of the radiator. So I got a new OEM one amazon and put it in as well as new thermostats just because, the radiator was damaged from shipping but I figured I would try it out. Once I got the truck to temp it started leaking and I could hear the bearings in the alternator going bad so I had to take that radiator out and they sent another radiator next day air and I ordered an alternator. I got the new radiator yesterday and it showed up with a hole in the box but I figured I didn't have much of a choice and it started leaking with no pressure in the coolant system. I am not sure if the leak originated from the radiator or trans cooler lines so I am picking up new trans cooler lines tonight and buying a radiator from somewhere local and will change all the lines and radiator and alternator wednesday. But if I cant get all that thrown together then it looks like I will be staying home this weekend...

And I hit a deer in the 350z on the way to work today

Atleast I am getting real good at changing radiators in dmax trucks.

Borrow my truck if you don't get your leak fixed in time. Hate to see you miss out on a weekend at Barber because of that.

Sure, you won't be able to set the cruise at 75 and relax, but it'll get you there!

  5. My personal opinion is stay away from Hotbodies. I had some on my Triumph. Fit was terrible, finish was marginal at best. Tons of holes in the gel coat that needed repaired. If you're spending the money on a paint job, give your painter a little better canvas to start with. They also didn't hold up for shit during a crash. They were destroyed in a low speed low side.

I've had excellent results and nothing good to say about Optimal Racing, however I'm not sure if they have fairings for the 13+ 675. Last I checked it was 06-12 only. They were about $480 shipped, which is not that much more than the "2 for 1" hotbodies.

I also think Armour body makes a good product too, but never had them on my bike.

And of course Sharkskinz are supposed to be top notch, but you'll pay for it.

  6. Here, I'm really good at technical drawings so I made this up.

Red line is the "T1 Bridge". Sell naming rights to some sponsor to cover the cost. Gray line is fence, and black lines are grandstands. It would be awesome. There's a road up to "Spectator Hill" now. Camping/parking along the hill in that area? All the other areas in yellow are possible camping areas as well.

Now someone submit this to PIRC and tell them we'll need it done by August.

the problem with a bridge to the infield is that it creates the need for so much more fencing to keep morons off the track.
the bridge might end up being a smaller project than idiot-proofing the infield.

They don't even need to allow access to the entire infield. The infield is pretty narrow, but a bridge to the old T5/T6 hill on the infield with some grandstands would  be awesome. You could see down most of the old "North" Track and a good portion of the new track as well.

  8. I'm definitely in for this.

If they want to make this a successful event, they really need to reconsider the whole camping thing. They have tons of areas you could camp, and ample parking. I would imagine for an event this size they may shut down the kart track for extra garages for the teams. Plus they have the huge "vehicle dynamics pad" that could offer parking/camping.

Oh, and Eddie better bring a lot of wieners. Hoping they would bring in a few more food/drink vendors for the weekend.

I'm going to take a class at a trade school before I buy any equipment beyond the mask, gloves, etc.

It's clear that I don't know enough about welding to know what kind I would use most often.  I also have a basketcase XR100 in the garage that the previous owner did some seriously shitty welding on...  Makes me want to do it right.

Taking a class is a good start. I was going to add that it's really hard to tell you what would be best for you (MIG, TIG, Stick/ARC) without knowing what you're trying to weld.

A MIG welder might be the most versatile welder for a hobbyist, all around welder at your house. But with that said, most of the units you'd be looking at that run off 110V or single phase 220V are never going to give you nice clean welds. They're only capable of doing "short arc" which creates a lot of spatter. They can't sustain enough current to create a "spray" transfer which greatly reduces the amount of spatter.

For what you are looking to do (assuming motorcycle stuff, steel frames, maybe some aluminum here and there) I might push you towards a TIG welder. I work at LE and I can't justify the cost of one of their welders. Someone mentioned a Square Wave TIG 200 which is a great welder and the one I would want in my garage if I had $1400 to blow, but I don't. Instead I have an Eastwood TIG 200 which has been a great welder and I've used it a ton over the last 3 years. When I bought it they were around $600 new.

For either welder, you'd want a bottle for shielding gas. Argon/CO2 blend for MIG, straight Argon for TIG. You can weld FCAW but on a small MIG welder it's going to have a lot of spatter. Not what you'll want on a XR 100 frame if you're saying previous welds look like crap. Get a 80 cubic ft. tank. They're about as big as you'd want to go and be able to handle it yourself. You can find tanks on craigslist for like $125 and refills are in the $30 range.

I also bailed out for Pittsburgh. I will be doing NC Bike this coming weekend. I am not doing Summit, I will be heading home Sunday after the session. Would like to get together with you guys possibly caravan down or even throw the bike in a trailer. If it doesn't work out, I'll just meet you guys there. Save me a spot and a place for my tent.

Hey John, most likely I could fit the bike in my trailer. I have to do a bit of cleaning out to make room for 3, but it'll fit. I think the plan right now is towing down my bike and Ryan's 1K. I think I'm going to do Monday now, so you might need to drive down separate. But at least I could tow the bike for ya.

You know you want to buy your old love back!

I already have 3 675's in my garage! Trying to get rid of one. I think you need to sell yours and buy jinu's 675R for the track, and my Street Triple R for the street. Perfect combo.
